I bought a copy of the dvd this week. I thought it was extremely informative and helpful in exploring what is an important issue.

I know that there were some people, who were interviewed but not included in the final programme, but whose interviews were placed on the BBC website. If you now log on to these pages, details of the programme still exist, but the videos have been removed.

I know how difficult it is to publically acknowledge HIV. You mention in the programme how few people were willing to go onto camera and face up the stigma.

It just occurs to me that it is a great shame that these videos have been removed, or were not included as a dvd extra. With so few voices willing to go public, I wonder if these videos could be made available somehow. Youtube?

The HIV/ AIDS Story is Being Rewritten

In House of Numbers: Anatomy of an Epidemic, an AIDS film like no other, the HIV/AIDS story is being rewritten. This is the first film to present the uncensored POVs of virtually all the major players; in their own settings, in their own words. It rocks the foundation upon which all conventional wisdom regarding HIV/AIDS is based. House of Numbers could well be the opening volley in a battle to bring sanity and clarity to an epidemic gone awry.

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to spread the word about an African adventure I'm embarking on...

I have just learnt to ride a motorbike and in October I will be riding across Africa to raise money for UNICEF, Sentebale, Touch Africa and the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund...

It's all about spreading the word about how to prevent mother to child transmission on HIV.

The awesome ballet impresario Robert Joffrey was sadly felled by AIDS before his time--well, as he himself was.
Fallen heroes are suitable in Russia but nowhere else can such great art be produced about tragic losses.

Hi Eternal Student,

Do you mean something like YouTube or perhaps directly on BBC's website?

Oh, well. I guess we'll just have to wait until [years later] PBS buys the program from BBC and starts running it during one of their pledges. X-D
Thanks for your help.

Talking purely scientifically there appears to be very little evidence to back up his theories and his attempts to produce some so don't appear to follow normal (or accepted) procedures. People shouldn't be afraid to question "established consensus" from time to time (as did the people who discovered stomach ulcers were caused by bacteria and not stress) but that doesn't mean that established consensus is usually wrong!

Talking ethically I think it's appalling to offer people false hope based on your own agenda, and even dangerous with infectious diseases. Medical practitioners have a duty of care to the patients welfare that should transcend your own particular wishes.

I think part of the problem with people like Matthas Rath is that they encourage people to look to the wrong places for answers. It's undeniable that there are problems with the way the pharmaceutical industry works, but peddling your own vitamin supplements, telling people not to take ARVs, claiming that HIV is a racist colonial conspiracy to kill black people and that ARVs don't work at all, performing unethical experiments on people causing them to die, suing journalists for libel for daring to criticise them, and telling lies about what charities and campaign groups are or are not doing, isn't really the way to solve those problems.

Not that I'm opinionated or anything.

I am writing to ask for your support of a campaign to commemorate the former Middlesex Hospital.

I am writing to you, specifically, because the hospital was featured in Stephen Fry's series "HIV and me". The Middlesex was home to the UK's first dedicated ward for patients with HIV-related illnesses. Prior to that, it was at the forefront in the battle to treat what was, at first, a new and baffling disease. Indeed, I personally looked after some of Britain's very first patients with AIDS while I was there.

The Middlesex Hospital was a famous teaching hospital which had served the community since 1745. It had occupied the Mortimer Street site since 1755. The demolished hospital buildings were built by public subscription between 1928 and 1935, without ever closing the hospital.

In 2008 the buildings of the former Middlesex Hospital were demolished. In their place, the Candy & Candy property development company are building an apartment and commercial complex worth close to £1.5bn. They plan to re-brand this 20 acre area as "NoHo Square".

I would like to invite you all -- and Stephen in particular -- to sign a petition that I have started, asking Westminster City Council to name the site "Middlesex Hospital Square" in recognition of over two hundred years of service to the people of London and beyond -- and to prevent the imposition of the name "NoHo Square".

This petition may be viewed at
http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/middlesex-hospital-square-petition.html

Many thanks in advance for your time and consideration,
Interesting and moving post.

It IS important that people question their blind belief that waht the the medical establishment and the pharmaceutical companies do has any real relation any longer to the original Hipocratic aim of 'doing no harm'.

It seems undeniable that terrible, toxic, immunity-destroying drugs were doled out to thousands with little or no proof of efficacy - but huge sums of money being paid over in suport of spurious research.

Many careers have been 'made' in the medical, research, pharmaceutical and CHARITABLE arenas by certain persons' choice to become AIDS focused.

There are certainly some 'bigger voices' who have begun questioning the HIV=AIDS premise - although some have suffered professionally for taking what is an unpopularly, uncommercial view of the issue.

Although a controversial figure herself, Christine Maggiore's book - What if Everything You Thought You Knew About AIDS Was Wrong is a chiling indictment of the way massive field trials of hugely toxic drugs were released upon an unsuspecting public. Noone will ever likely truly 'own up' to what happened during the later 80's and early 90's over this issue - and those who suffered at the hands of the comercially motivated interests are mostly (sadly) long dead.

But Maggiore's site:
http://www.aliveandwell.org/
Is, I think, still a stimulating and supportive place for increasing numbers of long term 'survivors' of the possibly 'mythical' impact, scourge and stigma, of HIV.

I am sure you know of this already but for anyone who doesn't for whom this topic is an issue should take a look. Good luck and kins wishes.
