I've just finished reading Naming the Dead by Ian Rankin.

One of the best Rebus books I've read to date. He captures the atmosphere of the whole G8 meeting in Scotland brilliantly along with a look brilliant dissection of the corruption and compromise of the powerful.

The rules:

It must be on YouTube.
You may only paste the link in your body of text and make a brief comment about why you like it..that sorta thing.

Discussion of vids is allowed, however, please try to stay focused on presenting music videos that you would like others to see as well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwFS69nA-1w
This is by Bright Eyes and called First Day of My Life. A great song but I liked the old reel tape and filming the people as they listen to this song. There's some real innocence in this video that speaks to me.

I would like to know if Mr Fry has ever appeared on BBC question Time as a guest panelist. I do not think this has happened as of yet. Have you been asked to appear? Would you is more to the point!
I would like to see you on such a show as I think your wit and wisdom may show the politicians to be wanting in the brain department. One of my favourite panel guests is Will Self who like Stephen Fry has an oratory gift though Mr Self has a more acid tongue.

Nitro on "THE HOBBIT"

So the first part of the Hobbit is coming out soon and I'm really excited about that. I was v impressed with the work Mr.Jackson did on the Trilogy, although I did a mumble a little bit, ( in the dark, by myself lol ), that Tom Bombadil didn't surface. Maybe this time??? Please?? He wasn't on every page, but you know, he was older than Gandalf ( which is saying a lot ) and really kind of..well...maybe a little nuts. But still, as subtle as his importance was, he was kind of a keystone in the little hobbits adventure.

Now, not being a very good fan of anyone I had no idea Mr.Fry was cast in the movie and will be playing the master of Laketown. I'm looking forward to how he interprets that guy and hope it makes him that much more familiar to anyone he'd care it to.

Pardon my effusion, but I can't say enough how, more than anything else, impressed I've been with Mr.Jacksons ability to compress Time in a story without compressing the story itself. That's my nonsense statement for the day. Mostly.

Ian McKellan staying on as Gandalf...talk about blowing a huge sigh of relief. He nailed Gandalf. Totally, freaking, nailed him IMHO More than most of the Tolkien characters, besides the elf king, I was hoping for that. But after all, Mr.McKellan has such a fantastic career of characters he's played, and so well. There are great American actors, of course, but there's just something about a Brtish "thespian" that is really special, particularly in some stories. I never 'heard' an English accent when I read Tolkiens books, but seeing the movie it struck a kind of natural chord especially with the obviously bad guys and obviously good guys ( gandalf vs sauron for instance ).

Nope, not a Tolkien geek at all. But do admire Mr.Jackson's abilities and excited for Mr.Fry. Anyone else looking forward to this movie or can I count on listening to crickets? <img src="http://www.stephenfry.com/bb-content/plugins//bb-smilies/default/icon_lol.gif" title="" class="bb_smilies" />

There was this satirical program in which Mr Fry played an investigative journalist. The episode I saw the subject was about monkey balls.

Never mind I found the program. It was called "This is David Lander".

Hello Everybody!

I thought it would be nice to have a thread that would permit us fans to express ourselves artistically.
Of course, it would be an honor if Stephen Fry could see this himself.
In the meantime, feel free to critique my work, and by all means, add yours too!

Enjoy!

So, as has likely been asked numerous times before: Over the course of Jeeves & Wooster, the characters of Gussie Fink-Nottle & Ms. Madeline Bassett change multiple times. From what I can tell, Gussie is played by two actors, where as Madeline is played by no less than three actresses over the course of the series. Though distracting, this isn't the change that surprises me most.

The change that strikes me enough to post about it online is the sudden onset of speech impediments in both characters starting in series #3. The question I have for you, Mr. Fry (and any J&W fanatics who might be reading), is what brought about such dramatic personality quirks? Did the series really need to be MORE tongue-in-cheek comedic?

I'd appreciate any comment on the matter as, frankly - it baffles me, and I'm absolutely with child to know the answer.

I listen to music pretty much constantly, so I'm curious to see what you all like. I like some R&B/soul kind of stuff (Amy Winehouse, Alicia Keys), as well as some 50s/60s oldies and folk music. However, rock is my favorite genre. I really like U2, Led Zeppelin, Patti Scialfa, and Alanis Morissette. That probably seems like a bit of a random bunch, I know. However, my absolute favorite is Bruce Springsteen (who happens to be married to Patti Scialfa, actually). I just absolutely love his sound and think he's one of the best songwriters of all time--such brilliant lyrics that are so easy to connect with. If I ever get to see him in concert, my life will be a little more complete.

Okay, your turn <img src="http://www.stephenfry.com/bb-content/plugins//bb-smilies/default/icon_mrgreen.gif" title="" class="bb_smilies" /> I'd love to know what you guys listen to and maybe discover some new favorites for myself!

What "Yes, Minister" was for the 80s, and "House of Cards" was for the 90s, "Absolute Power" was for the 00s ... but not yet in my home collection.
