I've decided to post a picture of His Royal Fryness everyday until I run out of pictures. Judging from my Photobucket account, that should happen late summer 2018. Feel free to post your pics as well. You may also post humorous captions if the mood moves you.

Hey everyone,
I haven't yet seen a V-Day project thread for this year so thought I would start one to see if anyone is interested in putting something together. I'm aware that we don't have much time (it's Feb 14th for those who aren't sure of date) but if anyone wants to join in - and has ANY ideas for what we could do, you would be very welcome. It has to be relatively simple and easy to co-ordinate due to time limitations, but other than that, pretty much anything goes!

Key Valentine themes (to give us something to prod our brains into action!)

Love
Hearts
Chocolate
Flowers
inckognito on "Fluffettes Happy Birthday List"

Hey Fluffettes and other Stephen Fry fans,

I've just thought how it would be great if we had a kind of sticky thread here with all our Special Days (like Fluffettes Happy Birthday index).

What we could do for a start is post by post, leaving here a small message of when someone has his/her Happy Birthday just to keep tracking this valuable information.

The main reason is (apart from Fluffette-to-Fluffette congratulations) to kindly ask Stephen on Twitter either by DM or by simple @ to him that this or that Fluffette has a Birthday!

I think it's great when someone else asks him to send you a tiny sweet Hippo Bathday reply instead of tweeting and asking him by yourself which is kinda embarrassing especially when you ask & fail

So, I'll start first.

In case someone want to give me a 'present' on my special day - it's on the 8th, January

Looking forward to your replies with dates, folks!

Hi guys,

I'm a huuuuuge Stephen Fry fan, and I thought I'd do a portrait of him to show my support. It's Mr. Fry wearing a fur coat not unlike the kind Oscar Wilde would wear. I wonder if Stephen Fry would ever see it.

Dear Mr. Fry (or Stephen, if that's better, and hello to any other readers),

I'd just like to say thank you for helping make life more wonderful
and hopeful for myself and others like me. I've been coping with
terrible anxiety etc. etc. over the past year(s), and in the same
time have become aware (thanks to youtube) of QI, Stephen Fry in
America, and all the wonderful people you work with. Thanks to QI, I have great new comedians in my life now who I delight in. When I hear the QI theme, I can feel my blood pressure drop and I feel instantly more at ease. I've read and re-read Moab Is My Washpot, as your type of
bold declarations of passion and inner conflict are a breath of fresh
air. I'm now strolling delightedly through the Folio Society's Plums of P.G. Wodehouse, and have been entirely won over.

For my birthday today, a gift arrived from my parents, of the complete DVD set of A Bit of Fry and Laurie, which I shall instantly begin devouring as I have every episode
of QI. Living abroad as I have for the past decade, I've never been
more proud of my homeland of America than when watching Stephen Fry
in America, a brilliant exploration of that mighty and contradictory place.

As a fellow writer and as a linguist, I agree wholeheartedly that language is something to delight in. I unfortunately am given to complaining at every possible opportunity, but thanks to your work I have less to complain about, and more to gush about with hopelessly earnest American sincerity. Thanks to your work, the world feels less lonely and frightening, less hostile to the hypersensitive dreamers of this world who delight in discovery and never saw the point of competition in the first place.

Even if you never read these words, I know you've heard them before, and I apologize if this kind of blathering makes you blush. Still, I just read Wodehouse's Mr. Mulliner's Buck-U-Uppo from Meet Mr. Mulliner, and decided to put a few more well-intentioned ones and zeroes out into the world, as my own kind of elephant tonic.

Take care, Mr. Fry. The world is a better place for countless numbers of us because of what you do.

Thank you.

Back in grade school, I was a bit of a trouble maker and would always be sent to sit away from the rest of the class. The result of this was sitting next to a gigantic old dictionary that nobody ever looked at but myself. My teacher did despise me, and if I used the colloquialism "ain't" she would always correct me stating, "Ain't isn't a word." One day, as I recall, I stumbled upon the word "aint" in this old dictionary. This word was not "ain't" with the apostrophe, but "aint" without. It did not mean what it does today, and for the life of me I can't find it or recall it's meaning.

Because Stephen Fry is the genius he is, I would expect that most of his fans are also on his wavelength when it comes to the passion for words. I hope someone, anyone, can help me on this search. I don't think I'm crazy, and I remember it like it was yesterday when I was able to point to the word in the dictionary and snap back at the teacher saying, "Aint is a word... it says so right here", but for the life of me I can not find this word anymore online.

Can anyone help, or am I delusional? Any help would be much obliged.
Thank you in advance

Stefi on "Understand music"

I didn't quite know where to post this, I hope this is the right topic/thread/howeverItsCalled

I increasingly get the feeling that I don't understand music, especially without lyrics. I only listen to music with lyrics, so I suspect that this gives me the illusion of understanding it because I understand the lyrics.
Especially with classical music, I always feel that everybody else hears something I dont. Or maybe I do hear it, but I don't "observe". Most people seem to hear brilliant harmonies or subtle somethings while I just hear some instruments playing away.
How can something in music be "subtle"? (I mean that question! I have literally no idea. Is it that they play quietly or something?) I just don't understand.
Could this be because I'm tune deaf or something? People tell me I don't hit a note, although it sounds alright for me. If an instrument isn't tuned or someone else who is untalented sings, it also sounds alright. Why is it that I can't enjoy the music that brought joy to millions? I'm not asking to be able to sing. I just want to "hear" music, realy hear it.
Can anyone help me? Is this a hopeless situation?

Hello,
I am a graphic design student about to start a project based around the idea of sharing knowledge through different digital mediums. The base of this project is to look at how a wide demographic of people share knowledge, because of this I’m obviously looking for a lot of people to contribute by posing questions and answering questions of other contributors. I will then use all of this content to create a website and/or an e-book; exploring the possibilities of sharing knowledge in the digital realm. I’m looking to find weird and wonderful questions (scientific, philosophical or just fun) that you would like answered, an example being ‘where does your lap go when you stand up?’

Does anybody have any weird or wonderful questions that they’d like answered or discussed?

Thanks, Alex

and may your dreams

I wish Dr.King had survived to see our current president

I went to youtube and watched a clip of a news broadcast, Cronkite I think, breaking the news that he'd been assassinated. As awful as that truth is, and how popular assasination seemed to be during that era, I was so disgusted to see both how ignorant people are of why he was doing what he was and how willing they are to mock the dead by the YT trolls. Impotent little shits...

Anyway, there was an interview done in 1962 with Dr.King that's well worth looking up

It is with a very heavy heart that I relay the following to you all from her father Paul Culling:

"It is with great sadness that I message you all today.
Katy sadly lost her battle with bipolar disorder and passed away on Tuesday 22nd March at midnight. We don't have the full details of the circumstances surrounding her death yet but I will post funeral details when we know for those interested in attending.

Love Paul, Sue, Beth, ..."

I am saddened beyond description by this news. Katy-Sara, you were a sweet, lovely, talented, courageous, truly wonderful human being and great friend to me. We shared many laughs and a few tears and I miss you already. And though the world was far better with you in it, I know you're at peace now. I'll never forget you.

Edit: When Mr.Culling provides the funeral details I will post them here.
