I knew Churchill loved animals, but had no idea he was an advocate. Thanks for the link!

Saw a recent Qi espisode in which it was mentioned the fate of the horses stranded in Europe I thought you might like to view the link below from the Churchill society about how Winston Churchill saved thousand of horses

juice fasting is not an effective means of permanent, healthy weight loss. the best way to maintain a healthy weight is to listen to your body: eat when you are hungry and stop when you are full. definitely eat organic foods and try to cut down on processed things, but by no means starve yourself. that is why you notice extreme weight loss with juice fasting - not because it is some kind of diet secret, but simply because you are starving your body of the energy it needs to function. and anyway, you are MUCH more likely to end up bingeing if you fast, as your body ends up screaming for you to feed it and you start eating frantically, basically on autopilot. purging is the most disgusting, unnatural thing i have ever done, and it certainly feels wrong considering all the people in the world who go hungry. fortunately i am fairly inexperienced with self induced vomitting, as i have only done this on rare occasions, howevever severe restriction of calories is my field, and i can tell you right now it is a miserable life to live. anorexia has wrecked my school work, my social life, my will to live and aspects of my health. it has made me a liar and someone who is extremely secretive in almost everything i do. i urge anyway wanting to lose weight to do it properly - get advice from your doctor, and never let a number on a scale decide how you feel. take care <3

for fast weight loss: Go on a Juice diet, cut out all processed and cooked foods!, juice up fruit n veg !! Can be expensive particularly when using organic, but you can't beat it, why? because you are still able to exercise unlike water fasting.

For not so extreme weight loss: reduce processed and cooked foods and eat as much fruit and vegetables as you like.

fruit and veg is the key.

Hi, for my contribution I would like to suggest swimming. I was approaching my mid thirties and was chubby. I wasn't happy and although I put little emphasis on age I was feeling a little insecure with myself. It was suggested by my darling girlfriend we should start swimming. We started going twice per week for about an hour. within weeks I could seemingly swim forever One thing i did notice was that i didn't lose much weight. The reason why ? I was becoming toned and more muscular. I looked in the mirror and was pleased. this was after about two months. I have always been a healthy eater, but adding in the swimming really made a difference. There is also immediate gratification as you leave with a wonderful feeling of calm and almost euphoria. I would recommend it to anyone who is able I am now forty by the way and am happy and fit.

Hi everyone Newbie here (Trondheim Norway)

I saw a interview with Mr. Fry not long ago, and commented to my better half "look how thin he has become"!!! He has lost some serious weight, for sure! Good for him He's in a agegroup where it's "a cunning plan" to loose some weight to keep up a good health. That said, from personal experience I would say to everyone trying to loose weight: Be careful! There is something called "eating disorder", and you may get stucked with it for the rest of your life. Just be careful!!

I have some sympathy with the OP's comments. I didn't like the "fatuous bint" comment either. It didn't make me want to stop watching QI, but I did feel it was unnecessarily unkind.

I also agree with Nitro about the rather nasty response the OP received.

15-20 really good accounts is about as much time as one person can legitimately devote to actually read what's linked and pay attention to what's really being said. If you find five amazing accounts you're set.

Resort to hash lists only for times of chat roulette nostalgia - or if you find misogyny funny, which I don't unless the joke is specifically engineered to be satirical against the people who champion domination scenarios. Only problem then is when people begin to think it's funny by nature, without bothering to consider the underlying inferred solution toward the problem or at least identify the causes it arises from so the joke is revelatory about the perpetrator or society. Usually it's gender politics.

I go on Twitter occasionally to see what my favorite actors and shit are up to. I'll post something at random, usually in caps and in as sarcastic a tone as I can get across in text, because no one reads my feed anyway.
I sort of treat it like Facebook, if all Facebook had were status updates.

Nitro said:
The point that some of this stuff is following people home, off work but related to work, is terribly depressing if you're not in some sort of emergency related field ( e.g. medical/law enforcement ). A person should be able to put in an honest days work and then be left alone to enjoy their lives. Instead, employers now feel quite alright about making workers lives more of a hell than they've ever been. Instead of working to live, people are living to work.

I agree, unless you're working in the medical profession, law enforcement or any other service that relates to saving lives, rescuing people etc I don't see why employers should expect you to be on 24/7 call via mobile phones and e-mail. I've experienced this to an abusive extent in the education sector. Where your employer (and students) expects you to answer your phone instantly whether it be on weekends on holidays (public or booked ones), answer all e-mails immediately and do nothing but work every minute of your life. I'd had enough of this, it was damaging to my health and have seen the damage it has done to other people so I left and am happier and healthier for it. I don't live to work, no one goes to their grave surely saying I wish I'd put in a few more hours at the desk? >_< I'm much firmer with people now about how I manage things like e-mail and make it clear that if I'm out of the office then they're going to have to wait.

He said walking with audio books.
And walking is effective. I lost about 5-6 inches around my waist just through all the walking I do at work. Plus moving around the merchandise/goods.

Walking is very effective! Years ago I used to work in a warehouse, a job which involved a lot of working. I lost 3 stone in 6 weeks! I should start walking more, to build my stamina up too. I've been told stress can affect weight - you have either lose it or gain it, me I gain it when I'm stressed. >_<

It's awesome to see that Stephen Fry has done well at losing weight and quitting smoking.

If you want to help fight internet censorship, join EFF.org.

There's a problem under the hood that some of the freedom fighters need to remember: the delivery of foul programs via the internet that, at the moment and until gov infrastructure catches up, can shut down important utilities ( reference the Stuxnet virus ). The problem is there is A LOT of old, old and creaky soft and hardware product out there that has not kept pace with the civilian Shiny Things & Apps stuff.

I think the problem is so bad, in fact, that rather than excite the goverened with these things, the issue of how to 'control' the internet is wrapped up under knee-jerk topics like child porn. This is not to say that there aren't those who aren't resistant to freedom of speech in and of itself, there are - but they don't want to publicize various vunerabilities and insecurities that the black hats out there might exploit.

Government is always slow to keep pace with tech in terms of implementing it in a widespread fashion. It's not just about cops trying to keep you from doing bit torrents of films and music or child porn.

at101, that was nasty. It sounds like the kind of nastiness the OP was talking about. The op came on to express something and it wasn't to you, directly.

If Mr.Fry can't take criticism anymore, he needs to say good-bye and go flop on a beach in the south pacific. But wether he can or can't, I'd venture to say he doesn't need anyone's help to defend himself. Or, are you one of his twitter followers that swarmed that poor guys twitter page not long ago, the one who very benignly mentioned Fry's tweets being 'boring' lately or some such? Which is hardly, btw, any kind of scathing indictment of a persons character. But he was treated as if it was!!

So someone comes on here and says what the OP here said...there's no vitriole, no uber-angst, no nukeing...just an expression of disappointment and a valid complaint from their own perspective. Why is that so threatening and TO YOU?
