aidrenegade on "Say No To EU Seed Law"

The final proposal for a New EU Seed Law has been released in last few days leaving little time for objections. This Law will ban all traditional vegetable varieties unless registered and licensed. Now it will be illegal to give that seed to your kids to grow when you give up gardening.

“These proposals would make it impossible to licence or to sell, cultivate or swap thousands of ancient and heritage varieties of seeds, a bank of genetic diversity that has been built up over many generations. Instead they would place seeds and cultivar-development irrevocably in the hands of a few multi-national companies. We would lose the knowledge, experience and diversity of our rich seed heritage in exchange for half-a-dozen bland varieties suited to agro-industrial production, and greater profits for multi-nationals.”

This is being voted into law on the 6th May 2013 so if you object to this your opinion needs to be voiced as soon as possible.

There is a lot more information and how to object on this site:

http://www.realseeds.co.uk/seedlaw.html

As this document is over 100 pages long it is highly likely that politicians and commissioners are only reading the 'executive summary', unfortunately in every case, in the 'executive summary' at the start of the law, there have been vaguely reassuring promises that it will only apply to farmers, there will be concession for old seed etc. But, according to the Real Seeds site, the actual legal articles of the document itself, the bits that will become written into EU law completely contradict this and it does not make the concessions they are claiming.

Hello all <img src="http://www.stephenfry.com/bb-content/plugins//bb-smilies/default/icon_smile.gif" title=":-)" class="bb_smilies" />
Does anyone here know why Stephen's recording of some of the Anthony Buckeridge Jennings tales was allowed to go 'out of print' (if you can say that about the spoken word)? They were so very funny and good, such a wonderfully happy listening experience, it's hard to understand why they're hard to track down today. My own children were lucky enough to have the two-tape set, which held 10 of the stories - and we remember listening to the tapes over and over again; Stephen did such a superb job, and transported us all with consummate ease to the wizard world of Lindbury Court prep school.
If Stephen could be persuaded to revisit the project, there are another 15 Jennings stories out there for him to transform with his magical dulcet tones. But even if the lovely man wasn't inclined to revisit the project, at least they could be remastered to CD format ... I'm absolutely convinced that masses of children even in today's tech world would feel likewise.
NB: I should probably own to the fact that my first husband was a Jennings, and so at the time were we all. But although it may explain our initial interest, my quest all these years later is born not of partiality, just very happy memories. <img src="http://www.stephenfry.com/bb-content/plugins//bb-smilies/default/icon_biggrin.gif" title=":D" class="bb_smilies" />

Unfortunately I have to disagree with you slater4353.

Although the childcare system, and in particular the process of finding suitable foster parents, is a horrible prospect for any child, surely it is for the best? Rather than being intimidated into keeping a child that they feel they cannot care for, it is best to place the child in care, where a better life may await them?

Of course, if you are not prepared for the tremendous responsibility that comes with raising a child, then yes, it is best to use contraception. However, there will be many cases where parents have grossly underestimated the task of raising a child, but it does not mean they are to be named and shamed.

Naming and shaming a parent would achieve nothing. Although the cynical side of me thinks that many people would love the prospect of laughing at inadequate parents, you have to take into consideration the quality of life that the child will be given. Being put into care (the name speaks for itself), rather than being trapped with a clumsy parent, must surely be better?

Repression
by Frank Turpis

Perhaps I'm losing my mind, or perhaps I've already lost it, but as I sit around at 6AM, the writers who suffered from their own mind H.P. Lovecraft, Robert E. Howard, and more recently Stephen Fry all have or had such a divine intellect and creativity that it may be this world that is unfit for that way of thought which causes them so much distress, that we as a society brutalize those who are different, the law and the government which were supposed to be here for everyone not just those with the most money or the most influence, are perhaps the biggest issue with humanity, they have the power to change things, however they don't out of fear of change, the majority of votes, and/or a fear of the unknown, which has plagued humanity since the dark ages, and most likely beyond the caveman era.

The people in society repress those who speak up for change, as their own mind has been clouded one of the reasons being the judgment and propaganda of others, mostly authority figures such as parents, news, the government, as well as others, we see this in our ancestors who repeated "Slavery isn't wrong" with many people who loved their slaves, and truly believed that was how it should be, eventually there was progression, slavery was abolished, countries started admitting they were wrong on the subject of race, and suddenly creativity was granted to those of colour and who previously weren't considered human, which of course lead to us having great people such as Neil DeGrasse Tyson a wonderful astrophysicist and science communicator. Similar things happened to females, homosexuals, and surprisingly animals.

Although I'm no spiritual person I can't help but think a man such as Aleister Crowley had it right when he said "Do what thou wilt, shall be the whole of the law." in other words "Do what you want, that's all that matters." How brilliant! People are often wrong, I can choose my own destiny, I can fight against these repressors and live a life of my own! And how was he perceived? He was denounced in popular press as "The wickedest man in the world". He lived a life of sex orgies, and drugs, a life style which he chose to live and others joined him as they often wanted the same, you may not be okay with drug use, you may not be okay with sex orgies, which is fine, you don't have to do such a thing, but I suggest strongly you do not stop others from living that way if they're inclined to live that way.

People will do things you do not like, however if you're asking for them to be controlled for such acts, you're ushering in a dictatorship, and an era of thought police. "I do not like such a man looking at me with lust, have him stop!" The man has done nothing but glance at you with potential thoughts that give him possibly joy, and you're asking the thought of a fellow human being to be controlled, to have no creativity, to have only a few cookie cutter options available for how to live your life. This is the way the world is going, if you want freedom, you want creative, and you want progress for humanity and society, you can fight against this repression. I won't tell you what you MUST do, I won't tell you that you HAVE to do this or that, those are your choices, but I highly recommend you think about the effects of your actions before you do such a thing.

I am very well straight though I have no problem with those people who would want to sway away from the norm either. I am not saying this because I have friends who are in the LGBT community but I just think that they deserve support than anything.

They are not showing problems with how we could stay straight so there should be a common ground for both parties to work with.

Well I am not really sure with this one and how credible the source could be but if it is something that is being pushed already, then I think that there might be more to it that what is on the surface. I could not believe that they are willing to take this route with it.

I mean, that is not only against our rights but also something that will rather raise a lot of eyebrows considering how fragile the process could be.

Yes indeed, as with fluoride, we can expect Lithium in our star bucks coffee
,swimming pool, washing up bowl, bath, shower and of course our food. Your dosage without your consent? It will all depend on your location, where your food is grown and your lifestyle. This is medical ethics gone insane. Even if you can afford a whole house filtration system, you will still be effected by this mass medication and you will not know how much you are consuming.

Here we see the BBC prepping the public for UK trials.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/8025454.stm

Whats next? Adding sun tan cream in our drinking water, so that when we sweat it out our pores we will not need to manually apply, therefore reducing skin cancer? I would not be surprised.

Dear readers, I really need your views and wisdom.

You may know that fluoride is added to our food and water and that this forced medication is against our civil liberties? The government is planning to fluoridate the entire UK water supply.

It is said that fluoride is added to water with hope that it may reduce tooth decay. Fluoride can help in small amounts if we brush it onto our teeth and then swill around and spit out the chemical down the sink. Although the fluoride is actually absorbed under the tongue and gums from the brushing of toothpaste, we are not to swallow fluoride over a certain amount as it is one of the most toxic chemicals to humans and pets. When ingested above the maximum recommended amount, fluoride can cause skeletal/dental fluorosis and has been absolutely proven to calcify the pineal gland which is situated in the skull.

Administration of this drug through the water supply is not only without our consent, the dosage from consumer to consumer is very dramatic. Meaning that some people receive less than the government require and in most cases far too much. As we absorb fluoride from showering ,food and even washing up. This is not just about drinking water from the tap in the kitchen.

I have posted here today because I need to ask people that may not yet know and the views of Stephen fry fans surly will be intriguing and note worthy.

Below is a very informative video and is quite interesting indeed.

The youtube video is called "Professional Perspectives on Water Fluoridation "
