Right wing politics hurt ordinary, wage-earning people,and pensioners. We are feeling it here in Queensland Australia with a newly elected right wing State government which hates unions, despises workers' rights and loves austerity, cutting jobs, services - the lot. They have cut so many jobs that the Brisbane CBD is going under: empty car parks and shop trading losses. If you ever read about Australian politics I should point out here that 'Liberal' means right wing (ie in the sense of the old laissez-faire liberals), Labour means left wing. Also, 'Republican' means anti-monarchist and is often left wing: the pro Monarchists are often right wing. When the Liberal (ie Tory) opposition leader went to America once, they thought he was a socialist because he was an anti-republican Liberal!! He was a bully then and he's a bully now. The public image is just that, an image. They all know how the game is played. Lie, lie, and then lie some more. Just make sure the lies SOUND good, SOUND reasonable. They don't have to actually BE either of those things and they'll still get votes. Romney is tapping into the fears of, and this is statistically verifiable, older white people who go to church and most of them are older white men who just cannot adjust to a different society. They came up believing, consciously or not, that the entire world was made by and for primarily themselves and anything that threatens that in any way is 'bad'. Romney is aware of this fear and feels it himself so any laws regarding all that, I do believe he's going to work hard to implement should he win office. Listen, they hate 'the gay', they hate unbelievers, they hate independent, free women, they hate non-whites unless they're mowing the grass...and even if the word 'hate' is unfair, i am very, very comfortable replacing it with the word 'fear'.... why do they forget the words of their Bible? He seems to want to run his campaign on making it a referendum on the Affordable Care Act. This makes me want to yell abuse at the screaming hypocrisy of these religious nutters who would rather poor people were denied health care. What IS it with these right wingers? If Romney had any sense, he'd leave well enough alone and abide by the Act, saying it is a done deed. But his hatred of anything that helps ordinary people might well seal his fate and give the election to Obama, with ease. I think presidents in office during a time when jobs offering living wages are very scarce, that president tends not to be re-elected. Hopefully, now that he's clearly up against Romney, or Romney up against him rather, enough people with common sense will vote and make it a landslide in favor of Obama. I think Romney would be destructive by the end of his 2nd year, if he won, because if his bias against anyone who's not uber-wealthy. He would slash even further into programs that Bush amputated or left hanging by a thread and it would only add to the burdens on healthcare because people would be living in the streets more and more. If you like Obama, cross your fingers. If you like Obama and can vote for him, then do so.
