I have a proposition that it is possible to make an objective assessment of the validity of our judgements.

My essay is here:

http://web.me.com/turbohippo/Coppleosophy/Blog/Ent.....Seeker.pdf

I think that my essay will be of interest to people who share Stephen Fry's philosophy, and I hope that you don't mind me sharing it with you on this forum.

Crazy Meds is a great site to visit if you want to find out about any medications you may be on or are being considered for you.

As they say, it's "where you can learn what’s good, what’s bad, what’s interesting, and what’s plain weird and funny about psychiatric and neurological medications."

Thought some might find this useful.

Dear Mr. Fry (or Stephen, if that's better, and hello to any other readers),

I'd just like to say thank you for helping make life more wonderful
and hopeful for myself and others like me. I've been coping with
terrible anxiety etc. etc. over the past year(s), and in the same
time have become aware (thanks to youtube) of QI, Stephen Fry in
America, and all the wonderful people you work with. Thanks to QI, I have great new comedians in my life now who I delight in. When I hear the QI theme, I can feel my blood pressure drop and I feel instantly more at ease. I've read and re-read Moab Is My Washpot, as your type of
bold declarations of passion and inner conflict are a breath of fresh
air. I'm now strolling delightedly through the Folio Society's Plums of P.G. Wodehouse, and have been entirely won over.

For my birthday today, a gift arrived from my parents, of the complete DVD set of A Bit of Fry and Laurie, which I shall instantly begin devouring as I have every episode
of QI. Living abroad as I have for the past decade, I've never been
more proud of my homeland of America than when watching Stephen Fry
in America, a brilliant exploration of that mighty and contradictory place.

As a fellow writer and as a linguist, I agree wholeheartedly that language is something to delight in. I unfortunately am given to complaining at every possible opportunity, but thanks to your work I have less to complain about, and more to gush about with hopelessly earnest American sincerity. Thanks to your work, the world feels less lonely and frightening, less hostile to the hypersensitive dreamers of this world who delight in discovery and never saw the point of competition in the first place.

Even if you never read these words, I know you've heard them before, and I apologize if this kind of blathering makes you blush. Still, I just read Wodehouse's Mr. Mulliner's Buck-U-Uppo from Meet Mr. Mulliner, and decided to put a few more well-intentioned ones and zeroes out into the world, as my own kind of elephant tonic.

Take care, Mr. Fry. The world is a better place for countless numbers of us because of what you do.

Thank you.

In the West, there is a saying about dogs being man’s best friend. They’re extremely loyal and they’re always thrilled to see you whenever you walk through the front door. In Europe, dogs have suddenly found themselves the targets of Jihad, particularly in the Netherlands and Spain.

Via Stonegate Institute:

A Dutch Muslim politician has called for a ban on dogs in The Hague, the third-largest city in the Netherlands.

Islamic legal tradition holds that dogs are “unclean” animals, and some say the call to ban them in Holland and elsewhere represents an attempted encroachment of Islamic Sharia law in Europe.

This latest canine controversy — which the Dutch public has greeted with a mix of amusement and outrage — follows dozens of other Muslim-vs-dog-related incidents in Europe. Critics say it reflects the growing assertiveness of Muslims in Europe as they attempt to impose Islamic legal and religious norms on European society.

Well, they're trying to push Shari'a law in Spain too and yes, it is about peoples dogs. Demands to prevent public display of dogs was rejected outright and so the next thing you know, 30 dogs were found poisoned to death the day after the decision to allow people to still walk thier dogs around and to parks.

Poisoning is a particularly painful and therefore, extremely inhumane way to kill an innocent animal, many of who are members of peoples families, companions to the elderly and disabled, and used in search and rescue and bomb sniffing exercises. The domestic dog is still our friend and gives a lot to us so we have tried to integrate them in many ways into our society with us.

If i don't like my neighbors cat, I don't go kill it. I just don't hang out with it. And if she wanted to drag it off to a public park or beach, that's her business.

Sorry Joe and Jane Muslim, practice your religion all you like but don't think you're going after MY dog in the process.

The Dutch dustup erupted after Hasan Küçük, a Turkish-Dutch representative on The Hague city council for the Islam Democrats, vehemently opposed a proposal by the Party for the Animals (Partij voor de Dieren) to make the city more dog friendly.

Mother Night, Mistress Moon

When pregnant Night descends, her darkling robe
enfolds me softly in its cool embrace
and sparkling starry babies fill the globe,
while midwife Moon looks on with beaming face.
Though daylight fuels my ardour for the Sun,
I still cannot resist Night's female charms,
seducing me to sleep with her as one,
encircling me with restful, dusk silk arms.
And while day lord Apollo burns more bright
and noon-time's light shines deeper in my eyes,
my heart longs for the mystery of Night,
the starflecked secrets of nocturnal skies.
Sun-warmed or moon-lit, by night or by day,
love is just love, it is not straight or gay.

Sorry for another blog link....

On Monday (31/01/2012), 30 year old Clyde Rathbone, a former international rugby union star for the Australian Wallabies (15 tests between 2004 & 2006) made a startling post on his Facebook wall revealing his personal battle with mental illness.

In the post, Rathbone speaks openly about his past & how emotional abuse as a child left him battling mental illness throughout his life. He asked that his story be distributed in an attempt to help others deal with similar situations.

It is with thanks to people like Clyde that the issue of mental illness is being brought out into the open. His candid story can only help in raising awareness of mental health issues & the stigma associated with these illnesses. I would personally like to thank him for this frank & deeply personal post & wish him all the best for the future as he continues to face his problems.

Here is his story, in his own words: http://nudirection.blogspot.com.au/2012/02/ex-wall.....s-all.html

I hope his story inspires others to speak out about mental illness.

Cheers

Sorry if I seem to put stuff from my blog here too much but sometimes it's really too big to put into one post, as in this case.

I don't know if the following is a true story or not, but I don't think it matters at all. I received the following in an email a couple of years ago when I was in a depressed state & promptly forgot about it. It was only today, going through my old emails that I found it again. True or not, it does say something important, at least to me.

I'm passing my Blue Ribbon on to you. I'll let the pictures tell the story:

Chaoticia on "A fiction novel called Vibrant Night and a side character named Fry."

I wrote a Gothic/Literary Nonsense/Fantasy novel called Vibrant Night (details below). I had a side character who I ended up naming Fry. Though the character bears no resemblence to Stephen Fry, it fit the sporadic nature of the story and was a literary nod, or bow-- if your reading from Asia then it was a bow. Then again it could've been a Western bow, after all, this is Literary Nonsense.

Summary: Lacie is an anxious college Freshman and her roommate is never around. Tuesday seems pretty boring until she finds herself looking at floating donuts in a city plunged in eternal night and vibrant madness. She meets the meek, Gothic employee Elizabeth and naturally, asks her to find a way out. The two travel towards someone known as Herbert who resides inside of the illustrious All-Mart-- but on the way, Elizabeth is kidnapped by a marble-headed man (who is aided by a treadmill). Lacie goes forth into N'quevna with her life on the line, and scope-eyes, and hair that smells like strawberries!

The book took me 4 years to write and is mixture of Literary Nonsense, Fantasy, Gothic, Satire, Sci-Fi, Adventure, and Comedy. It was most notably inspired by Hayao Miyazaki, Alice in Wonderland, the synthesis of Gothic Discordianism, and the Shivering Isles expansion of the video game Oblivion; as well as taking an actual town in Southeastern Michigan and turning it into a somewhat dangerous and modernized 'wonderland'.

This book can be read for free:

On Blogspot.: http://chaoticia.blogspot.com/search/label/Novel%3A%20Vibrant%20Night

On DeviantArt: http://yourdoom243.deviantart.com/art/Vibrant-Nigh.....-267078728

A physical copy of Vibrant Night can be bought here: https://www.createspace.com/3770699

Hello,
I am a graphic design student about to start a project based around the idea of sharing knowledge through different digital mediums. The base of this project is to look at how a wide demographic of people share knowledge, because of this I’m obviously looking for a lot of people to contribute by posing questions and answering questions of other contributors. I will then use all of this content to create a website and/or an e-book; exploring the possibilities of sharing knowledge in the digital realm. I’m looking to find weird and wonderful questions (scientific, philosophical or just fun) that you would like answered, an example being ‘where does your lap go when you stand up?’

Does anybody have any weird or wonderful questions that they’d like answered or discussed?

Thanks, Alex
