Dear Mr Fry,

Best wishes and many happy returns from myself and millions of your admirers and adorers in Russia. My feeling and amiration are best expressed in the poem of famouse Russian poet Pasternak:

To love the others – a hard cross,
But you are fair, without doubt,
And to discern your beauty’s most,
Is to discern what’s life about.

In spring, they hear stir of dreams,
And whisper of the truth and message.
You’re deeply fundamental seemed,
Your essence – like the air – unselfish.

It’s simple to wake and start to see,
Get wordy junk your soul out,
And then to live and clear to be –
And that isn’t much to do about.

Warmest greetings,
Faithfully yours,
Olga Shutko

Lovely post, Olga.
May I tack onto your thread (because no one else has made one for his 51st here yet) and say, Happy birthday weekend, Mr. Fry! Thank you for all the good you've brought to the world... the laughs, etc etc.

(does anyone know if he actually reads these threads?)

Right! The earlier the better!

But I think that Pasternak too much "doubt" as you put it))) And receive it as a response, pls

My (actually, not my, but it is needful for the rhythm) mister's eyes are nothing like the sun;
Coral is far more red than his lips' red;
If snow be white, why then his breast is dun;
If hairs be wires, black wires grow on his head.
I have seen roses damasked, red and white,
But no such roses see I in his cheeks;
And in some perfumes is there more delight
Than in the breath that from my mister's reeks.
I love to hear his speak (oh, dear lord, yes), yet well I know
That music hath a far more pleasing sound;
I grant I never saw a good god go;
My mister when he walks treads on the ground.
And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare
As any he belied with false compare.
