Stephen mentions on an old episode of QI that no animal will ever look in the direction of where someone is pointing. Instead the animal looks at your finger.
I made a discovery not long after seeing this show that the common house fly will follow the direction of your finger (or more accurately, your arm) when you point.
So next time you have a fly buzzing around your head, point towards a door or window and you'll notice it zip off in that direction.
