Hello, my first post.
Has everyone read the Gay Times article, re-published in the Guardian? Here's the link:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2009/apr/30/stephen-fry-letter-gay-rights
Brilliant.
I know he's the busiest man alive, but isn't it time he wrote that second volume of his autobiography. I could read his stuff all day.

he's going to! it's due to come out sometime next year, I believe (and I'm open to correction...)
the thought of it makes me want to erase of a bunch of months in my future...yknow, a little fast forward action! X-D
I haven't read the article yet but I'll be on it shortly.
edit for being sensible (x2):
I always think I've been acting quite silly and weird anytime outside the last three months. but I would like trying to write to my younger self (although I have far short of 35 years to go back.)

I read this, this morning. It was making me late but it was such a fascinating read I had to finish it. Excellent read.

Love that man. Wonderful way with words, and so good at getting people to think. Thank you for posting that link Antiquarian, I hadn't heard anything about it.

Thought I'd post the original letter that 16 year old Stephen wrote to himself in its entirety:
Not to Be Read Until I Am Twenty-five
I know what you will think when you read this. You will be embarrassed. You will scoff and sneer. Well I tell you now that everything I feel now, everything I am now is truer and better than anything I shall ever be. Ever. This is me now, the real me. Every day that I grow away from the me that is writing this now is a betrayal and a defeat. I expect you will screw this up into a ball with sophisticated disgust, or at best with tolerant amusement but deep down you will know, you will know that you are smothering what you really, really were. This is the age when I truly am. From now on my life will be behind me. I will tell you now, THIS IS TRUE--truer than anything else I will ever write, feel or know. WHAT I AM NOW IS ME, WHAT I WILL BE IS A LIE.
I think of myself as someone who is filled with love, whose only purpose in life was to achieve love. - Stephen Fry

Thanks for posting that letter, Fryphile. I remember reading it and wishing my younger self had written a letter to the person I am now. I could still do that - a letter from my middle-aged self to my senior citizen self. That might be quite interesting for my kids to read.

I found it all very saddening. Beautiful, moving, brilliant. But still sad.
