it'll be interesting to hear what Stephen Fry's got to say - hopefully it gets posted somewhere (last paragraph of linked article)

Sounds like a review of the license fee is underway and the Beeb are wheeling out respected figures to speak on the subject.

"Do we really require so many gardening programmes, makeover programmes or celebrity chefs?" he asked.
Sir David said it was "a scandal" that there was "no place for continuing series of programmes about science or serious music or in-depth interviews". I so agree with this. It annoys me when the BBC stoop to showing the same kind of dross that you'd find on ITV or contemporary Channel 4. They even have a channel dedicated to utter shite - BBC3.
Assuming direct control... |

I agree completely with Attenborough's views.
There's definitely a decline in quality in BBC's latest offerings. Although it's probably very much tailored to the majority of human beings - the only race to have ever de-evoloved in the history of the world. A stupid audience demands stupid television programmes, so that's what we get. Just recently a comedy pilot, MeeBox, from one of Britain's finest well-spoken and intelligent comedians, Adam Buxton, was turned down from BBC3 because it "wouldn't appeal to their 18-24 year old demographic audience". I really hope that one day, the general public wake the fuck up and realise just how stupid they have become, so that we can have our quality TV back. |
