Rap is the poetry of the ghetto.

Unfortunately, disaffected middle-class suburban youth find the idea of living in a ghetto somewhat romantic.

The point being, that many listeners/readers of poetry often miss the point

Having rambled that...

I don't think it's always necessary, if 'necessary' is a word that applies and I'm not sure it is, for a poet to be extraordinarily specific. It's fairly obvious people will read what they want into things on occasion anyway.
