Hi,
About 4 years ago now I went on a 10 day Vipassana silent meditation course (after never having done any meditation before!)... I had no idea (stupidly I think!) what a stress that can be on the brain.
Anyways.. with no history of bipolar or clinical depression in the family (that I am aware of) it was a surprise when I ended up having a bipolar episode.
This link : livingvipassana dot blogspot dot com is to a blog I set up while manic - and where I have just put about 2 1/2 hours of audio chronicling the whole thing.
Hopefully some of you may find it useful / interesting.
Cheers,
Patrick

when i try that link, it doesn't take me to a blog...
but i really appreciate you posting about the experience!
i am not diagnosed bipolar, but have had severe depression with hallucinations and agitation (that felt a lot like what, for bipolar folks, is a mixed episode... but can happen to people with depression too, i think... i'm rambling...)
anyways, i had a counselor suggest meditation, and i quit going after 2 or 3 classes because i had worse hallucinations and it just exaggerated everything i was already feeling... not just the hallucinations and emotions, but my feeling of being seperate from everyone else... because most folks in the class would say stuff like "oh, i feel so relaxed" and i was thinking "oh my god, i think the fucking room is upside down!! stop the ride!!!"
"HELLO I'M TACTILE !" is an anagram of my name
