(at) = @

The subject of the email being 'Fluffette's Birthday Message' or something similar. Attach 3 sound files, the titles of which will be your numbers. For example I'd have 1.mp3, 29.mp3, and 38.mp3. That is the two words only you have, plus 'birthday' which everyone says. Please include your forum name in the title of the email and send by the 24th July.

Further discussion page 6 onwards. Thanks!

Alongside the birthday book, earlier today I thought it might be nice to do an audio message, too.
The plan so far is that we will create an audio birthday message for Mr. Fry. We will each be given a word to say, and that word will have a number as to it's place in the message, they will be sent to me (Email or PM, what would people prefer?), I'll edit the words together to form the full message and we're sorted from there on in.

Fryphile's example to give an idea of how this would work:
Hope: Happy
Soph: Birthday
PamJH: Stephen
Ginj: From
Gerti: The
Help: Fluffettes
etc.

Where "Happy" is word 1, "Birthday" is word 2 and so on. Once you have recorded your word, send it to me by with the word number as the subject line and there we go.

Ginj and elTweeno came up with the idea that at the end we could say something like "...and a special birthday surprise is currently winging its way towards you from us all, though it may be a little late." so it's clear that we also have something else planned as well.

Thanks, I hope this makes sense!

People who want to take part so far (to be updated):

This is such a cool idea. Will anyone mind my flat, monotone, Midwestern US voice?

Glad to have you. I think it will sound really good with everyone's different accents from all around the world.

Edit: This is my 300th post!

I'm not sure how anyone would send you the audio file via PM, but if you don't want to give out your email address we could always set up a generic hotmail address for everyone to send their audio files to.

Also, which audio format is preferable? (MP3, wma etc)

I'm happy to give out my email address, just wasn't sure if other people would be happy using theirs.
I'll set a special audioproject email address up as soon as it's needed.
MP3 is probably best, I think? Nice and easy.

Yep, that all made perfect sense. And welcome aboard, Pam.
It's a shame we didn't keep you talking longer in the other thread then you could have opened this momentous thread with you 300th post. X-D

elTweeno, I think setting up a email address just for audio submissions is a great idea! May need to but some of you for clarification on saving to different formats, but we can talk about that later.

Ooo, I love how in the example I said "fluffettes"
This is such a good idea, I know I'm already on the list but I just wanted to say thank you again to everyone who's trying to make all these different things come together

Someone will have to tell me how I can record something. I'm stupid, you must know. Or maybe it's better to ask someone who can sit next to me so I won't have to do anything on my own except for speaking my word.

^I won't! I say give me a word where I can smash the short "a" as flat as possible.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_cities_vowel_shift

you can add me to the list.

edit: erm wow that up-arrow was meant to PamJH's post.

Just realised, I can convert to different audio types anyway so it doesn't really matter what you save as, although MP3 is pretty universal and easy, I think.

You are all lovely for helping me out with this. I'm so glad you all like the idea!

MP3 is fantastic, just thought I'd clarify that. Any other audio file type can be converted to MP3, which makes things even easier for participants.

If people post here (nearer the time) about how they plan to record their word, I'll happily guide them through the process if they want, including file formats etc.

What kind of stuff do you have on your computer? Windows Vista comes with an audiorecord software tool, so if you have (or know someone with) a microphone thats fairly straightforward. If you don't have Vista, there are free software tools out there with 'record functions' - I personally use Audacity, but if you do a quick Google search you'll find many others. If you have a mobile phone with an audio-record function, you can also use that & download it to your computer.

For those of us lucky enough to have an iPhone, AudioBoo is a free App and there are several other good recording Apps at reasonable prices too. I believe it's now possible to record AudioBoo's from other phones, though I'm afraid I'm ignorant on how.

geez, I'm going to have to figure out how to record. I found the external microphone and the plug but I'm not making sound...yet.

also, if you wanted to use PM you could upload your file to a site like yousendit or megaupload or sendspace and then just pass along the link.

Uhm... thank you eT, that's a lot of information. I don't have Windows Vista, but I guess I'll find out about something. Tomorrow. I need to sleep first.
