Ye gads! The place looks horrid. What's up with the red?

One other bug to add: The adverts for Mr.Fry's books/iTunes etc offering run right through members posts ( cover some of the text ).

Wordpress? Really?

I agree with a what someone else wrote: A little advance notice to the members who actually make this forum a living thing, would have been nice. On the other hand, no warning of sudden changes in the forum has rather become par for the course.

Maybe if I had my own little kingdom I'd make unilateral changes regardless of how the inhabitants felt too. All hail 'power' ( insert laughing smiley ).

I'll go create a forum and all of you are welcome to come and say any damn thing you want. I think after a while though, you'll find it's not all that exhilerhating and return pronto.

joking...joking...

Really? Wow.

There is a surprising sense of achievement (because I am a saddo) when a much loved thread is finally located in an extraordinary place.

Has been quite good sorting things out. (Smiley smiley)

The missing threads are the most disconcerting thing I've seen. Are they missing or just severely misplaced?

go to the front page (like http://www.stephenfry.com) and on the right side where it says you are signed in there should be a link to "my profile", and you click there and then click on the edit link next to your name.

I see the default gravatar pics, which is nice.

Bumped up a few missing threads that were found lurking on such pages as 27 and 33. Seems like they really were just hopelessly misplaced. Phew.

I did the ones that tend to be the regulars or that I remembered seeing recently. But I'm sure I've missed a few.

Also, I'm most familiar with General Musings but not so much with, say, the SLOTMD one. If everyone could please go through and bump up all the important threads in the particular forum branches that you're most intimate with...? Would be great.

I do not like the 'syncing' w/wordpress at all. For one, it's totalitarian thinking in the technological sense. It precludes the members privacy. Why in the world should it, by default, be arbitrarily decided that I have to use a gravatar at all? Why should it, by default, arbirtrarily decide for me to link to anything I do on any other site? Shouldn't that be the members indivdiual decision?

And btw, check this out:

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5.....QD99TO8500

OK, there is a very good reason that in computer programming the use of 'global variables' is frowned on, except it absolutely necessary cases. Because it EXPOSES code/programs too all sorts of irritating bugs and security issues.

Now Wordpress, Now Google, Now Twitter, Now....dumb. This is MICROSOFT thinking at its most evident. The reason that Windows sucks so bad is the design and thinking behind it is illogical. When you link, for example, the operating systems life to the life of applications...an error on either part shuts the other down.

This is an exceptionally poor decision logic ( cough ) for life critical applications. Forum's are not life critical however, the value that people place on their personal privacy often is.

Honestly...for a crew that is Apple-lovin' you sure are exhibiting all the behaviors of MS zombies. 'Ease of use' often comes with a price. How high a price are you actually willing to pay and how vunerable are you going to make the privacy of members here in order to prove simply that you can change a thing that didn't really need changing. Tieing this in to wordpress or any other comes with a dependency price.

The above article ought to make it clear to you what that price could mean for this site and this forum.

I guess if the 'chrome' is nice and shiny it won't feel so bad when you're sitting there at a stand still. ( should shrug )

Really? Wow.

I'll get my quilt and we'll make popcorn. Then we'll watch a good movie.

These generic avatars do look like quilts.

I was able to restore my signature but not my avatar. I've uploaded my avatar several times, saved it - and nothings happens, there's still this ugly pink thingy and it says I haven't chosen a file. The interesting thing is, in my profile the correct avatar is displayed next to my name...

I have to say that I'm rather confused about what the purpose of this is and what has actually been done.

I read something about only having one password to log in to the blog & forums - well I only had one anyway. Now I wonder if I was missing half the site?

And whats this about our privacy being compromised? I haven't understood in what way. Its true that internet security articles recommend that you don't put your DOB on forums to help prevent ID theft - I was reading one yesterday. So if I have to put something in it will be fake:(

Am I particularly thick or do others not understand either???

If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all........

I'm a bit confused as I have a gravatar and it's not showing up here. No idea what the account password for that is though (old smilies die hard)

That would be me.

Hm, I would somehow suppose this change has something to do with CLUB FRY. I mean, there was this long time period where you could register and everybody wondered when it would actually begin.
After seeing the recent changes I guess that's it. At least, it would explain some things, wouldn't it?
