So, i have posted about this a lot about this and really haven't found any answers. And yes, i will go see a doctor. It's going to be a while before i can go so i just want to get a feel of what i'm dealing with until then. I been having sleeping problems. The problem is i can stay up the whole day (To try and fix my schedule) and finally go to sleep around 10 or 11. I just wake back up 3-4 hours later? Now this doesn't always happen. The most ive gotten since this started is maybe 5 to 6 hours. I have a feeling it's my body clock or something. Like once i stayed up for a little over 18 hours. Went to sleep at 7 pm, woke up at 1 am. Stayed up for 4 hours then slept for 3 more. Then around 2 pm i slept for 7 more hours. So it's either that. Or i just sleep for 3-4 hours and just wake up for no reason. Why does this happen? This hasn't been going on to long, about a week and a half. Never had sleeping problems like this before on the past so i'm worried. I have been taking Celexa, and i know that can cause sleeping problems. But this started a day or two before i started taking it. So i'm lost. And i also have anxiety issues, but ive been doing really well lately and having been worrying too much about anything. This is the only thing that stands in my way. Has anybody else had this problem? If so how did you overcome this? I'm really hoping this is just a phase and i can finally move on.

Hi Zabstract!

Geeze, sorry to hear about the sleeping stuff! I know folks who have a similar sleeping pattern, of sleeping from like 11 to 3. Usually after a few days of it, the body is dog tired and lets you sleep at least one decent night.

However, it sounds like this is a new pattern for you, not the usual. It also sounds like you haven't had that day come where your body makes you catch up. Does your body feel really tired? Is the sleeplessness causing concentration problems, etc?

Even though you say that this started before you started taking the Celexa... when you say it started a day or two before, it's totally possible that you just happened to have a sleepless night before starting the meds and the rest of these are due to the med.

You should talk to your doc and see if this sounds normal. If it is a side effect, it might ease off over a month or so. Or you may need a combination of 2 meds or something.

If it's not your meds, well, at least you can rule that out... and then try other things.

I think somewhere on here there are some threads about ways to try and cure insomnia... but i have a hard time searching threads! we could start another

Lack or too much sleep is a constant battle many of us share hence the insomnia thread - this is when I miss KS the most as we chatted through the night and kept the demons at bay.

I find if I cant sleep I try not to worry about it and do something productive instead - read, write, surf etc I either get tired or I am hopefully exhausted the next night and can try and steer back to a more "Normal" routine.

Any hints and tips greatfully received

I used to have sleeping problems until i started taking olanzipine. I wouldn't be able to fall asleep until 3 or 4am, sometimes not at all. And if I did sleep normally through the day, I would still find myself exhausted during the day and would need to take a nap for a couple of hours, which would then start the cycle over again because I wouldn't be tired again until the wee hours of the morning. I stopped drinking pop, and coffee and tea, even chocolate, with little effect. The only thing that has helped me is Olanzipine, and when I run out and forget to fill my Rx I sleep normally for a few days, and then the cycle will start again so I make sure not to run out. My dr said its part of being bipolar. He doesn't know for sure what causes it but has guessed that perhaps my brain is convinced it is day time when it is nighttime and recommended not going on the computer in the evenings (yeh thats gunna happen) and also suggested I don't watch tv in the evenings either, which is ok with me because tv is boring anyway. Maybe it has something to do with the types of chemicals my brain produces or doesn't produce. I dunno. I've just accepted it as part of life for me now. I wish I didn't have to take the tranquilizers because of the slight side effects, but I would rather deal with those then problems with sleep. On nights where I've taken my tranqs and still cannot sleep I take a hot bath and listen to nature music, have a glass or two of wine and if it is really bad I will even try eating some turkey slices because of the aspartame or whatever in it lol. but thats when I am desperate. Usually the hot bath works, especially with aromatherapy bubbles/oil. I would try the warm milk and nutmeg but I am not fond of milk though I know some people who swear by it. but every once in a while I still have one of those nights where I will lie in bed all night long, relaxed but getting more and more frustrated punching my pillow because sleep just wont come.

Zoloft gave me insomnia so I switched to Celexa. You could ask your doc about taking it in the morning instead of at night (assuming you take it at night.)
I have anxiety as well and unfortunatly being tired does not = being able to sleep. I have prescriptions for that and I have been on them long term. If I had it to do over I would not have started them cause not I have to have them.
I had a sleep study done because my husband complained of my snoring. Turned out I do have apnea and now have a CPAP machine I wear every night. I do not feel any more rested when I have to get up unfortunatly.
Reading helps me. Not an easy type read but something you really have to pay attention to or you end up lost. The more your brain has to focus, at least for me, the faster I am able to fall asleep.
If I think of anything else will let you know!
