For those who don't know, I wanted to let you know that I lost Cappy today. He was 11 and was very ill. He had been going downhill for some time but i hadn't recognised it as I was too busy making excuses. By the time I got him down to the specialist down in Melbourne he was very ill. He died whilst under anaesthetic for a CT scan. They thought he would be alright, I thought he wouldn't. Perhaps I should have waited but he was sick and going downhill.

I miss my dog so much

Oh, I'm so sorry, losing a pet can sometimes be worse than losing a person. Since he was under anesthetic, I hope that means he wasn't in pain. I'm sure he had a happy, long life, and please try not to blame yourself too much.
: because he isn't around anymore, but
: because I know he had a loving home for so many years

Open to suggestions as to what my sig should consist of...

I used to be EternalStudent on these forums until the switch over. So don't get excited..I'm not someone new and exciting. I'm just me :P

I had them wake him up but he never did - his heart was going again but they had to breathe for him and then I made the decision to pts after I said goodbye one last time. It was selfish but I needed it. Soon as I saw him however, I said no, stop - enough. He said goodbye to me before he went under, but like everything else I couldn't see it.

Oh Occy, I'm so sorry to hear your devasting news
I'm sure he had a happy, long life and knows every decision you made was with his best interests at heart. If he was in pain and getting worse then surely you did the right thing.
Sending best wishes to you and your family.

I am very sorry to hear of the loss of your pet. I hear you doubting yourself, don't. That is one of the most important decisions we make, and it is very hard to get weigh what is best for our best friend and what our heart says. I am sure you made the best decision out of love for Cappy. {{{hugs}}}

Oh gosh, I'm so terribly sorry to hear of your loss.
I'm sure he was an important part of your life and always will be, keep tight hold of those memories. I know how awful it is to lose a beloved pet. Will be thinking of you, take care.

It took me a long time to face up to calling the vet out for our last dog. I live with knowing that I/we did the best we could for him all his life, but ultimately, it's time to take away the pain and remember all the good stuff instead, You can't do any more, and nobody who's done their best should ever beat themselves up over their actions.

The only way is forward. Now where's the bar?

I'm sorry, Occy. Don't blame yourself, though! Cappy wouldn't blame you. Dogs are fantastic that way; they love you forever.

I didn't see this earlier..

Occy, so sorry to hear about this. I don't really know what to say other than I know it is painful to the heart. That pain is a reminder that you loved, and were loved back. That probably doesn't help much right now. I've ushered beloved friends of the furry kind off to Doggy Valhalla before. It never gets easier. I'm sure Cappy taught you a lot of things that will be of benefit to you down the road, even if right now the primary thing you feel is grief. Every tear is a testament to how fond of each other you were.

Really? Wow.

Sorry Occy, sent you a tweet earlier.
