Hello folks,

Due to the eventual failure of previous medications, it looks like I may have to choose either Isocarboxazid ( Marplan ), Tranycypromine ( Parnate ) - or Bupropion. ( Wellbutrin )

I am a Bipolar II type, who's mild hypomania has been controlled by Depakote and sleep problems with Seroquel.

The remaining problem, is that I have been stabilised below the 'average' line - so still get a lot of anxiety and depression. I have been told that E.C.T may be considered as a last resort, but would rather use medication.

My preference sways towards Bupropion, due to Marplan and Parnate ( being older types of M.A.O.I ) requiring a drastic diet change, AND not allowing anaesthetic if I have an accident.

I also hear that Shatzi used Bupropion to good effect.

I am however, also apprehensive of the possibility of increased anxiety from either of these options.

Any experiences you can share with me would be very much appreciated, as I see my consultant again in about ten days to decide which treatment will be used.

Thanks in advance,

F.F.

Thanks for that Inducible. I had checked it out ( and 'askapatient.' - following a previous recommendation from your good self, but what seemed to distort the findings was that on 'crazy meds' they admitted to having no real data on M.A.O.I drugs and on 'askapatient' - only two people had commented on Marplan ( with seeming good results from one ) - but a lot of people had posted about Bupropion with an understandable variety of results.

I was therefore curious as to how the 'test samples' would read from this smaller (but familiar ) cross section.

In the final analysis I also realise that it may be very subjective - as we can all react differently.

I will however go back to the link you recommended in helping to form a final opinion about the Bupropion experiences.

Cheers !
