i'm going to see stewart lee next fridaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay
absolutely
fucking
brilliant!
the man is an artist, I don't know what else to say. Even during the weakest part of his set (where he was having a bit of a bitter rant about his life), at one point he was standing on the floor directly opposite me and I just wanted to offer him my seat so he could have a rest because he's far better than the recognition he's received. I didn't though because you know, that would have just been stupid.

I find Mr Fry funny - but since I'm a n00b: is he a comedian, or just a funny actor?
Technically speaking a funny actor is a comedian (as opposed to a tragedian) and a person who performs stand-up comedy before an audience should be called a comic, but then again few natives pay proper attention to the correct use of English vocabulary any more.
Mr Fry is therefore a comedian as all his humourous performances, whether in sketches, films or television series, are scripted and feature him playing characters rather than himself. The fact that he has written much of his material does not change the fact that he is a comedian, not a comic. It is the nature of the performance that determines the correct choice of noun.
Ah - thank you
That makes Jim Carrey both? He was a stand-up comic back in the day, and is now a comedian as well as a tragedian?

Did he do stand-up? I thought he just did sketches.
Others who would qualify for both categories would include: Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor, Eddie Izzard, Denis Leary, Bill Cosby, Woody Allen, Ben Elton, Billy Connolly, Jasper Carrott, Bob Hope, Bill Bailey, Dylan Moran, Bob Newhart, Rita Rudner....
I haven't said a word about who I like yet have I? Give me time.

There's another Boosh tour coming up end of this year (Sep-Oct), and I'll need a job by then.
Just a case of picking the right time to contact the tour manager's company. Too soon, and they'll be too busy to reply to enquiries and forget about you, too late and...well, too late realy.
I have extensive crew experience, how should I sell myself? (and no I don't mean like that!)

my favourite comedian or should that be comedienne is Ellen Degeneres.
She's blatantly so funny and naturally a very funny woman, both her live shows and her TV chatshow are fantastic-I love her.
I know no one has posted on here for ages but well...I have now

I agree, I remember watching Ellen on TV years ago and I got her book when I was on holiday in the states in '95. The book was good too.

I like most of the comics mentioned in this thread (with the exception of Russell Brand - yes, he has the ability to riff at the drop of a hat - but I have taken a dislike to him and not just because he came on very strongly with my cousin's wife) and was 'you tubing' a few of the names mentioned, last night.; in an attempt to cheer myself up because I am feeling rather miffed about having to leave all my girls in SoCal and fly back to London this week - just to fall in-line with the Visa Waiver three month stipulation. :'(
Any-bloody-how, while here last year I saw the entire series of 'The Flight of The Conchords"; gloriously original, charming, funny (obviously) with outstanding performances all round not to mention great songs - what more could you want?. In my view this show eclipses Extras, The Office . . well, track the show down and you be the judge. I believe it was on BBC3 earlier this year - and the DVD has been on sale for awhile.
After having trawled 'you tube' last night - as I mentioned - to try and catch up on stuff I have been missing (the HIGNFY episode with BRIAN BLESSED!! was a scream)
-I decided I liked this clip the best (sometimes the simpler it is the funnier it is):
