Very interesting, indeed. But I 'm not quite sure whether the first one is painted or a sculpture? And is he flying on a carpet with the Times crossword (2nd picture)?
Last thing which would really be of interest to me: who was the artist?

looks like a crossword, with what looks like a bear on his back.
i think it is a sculpture. who ever made it: good work, i love how it brings all these things together that are important to Stephen in a fun way.

I found Stephenephant in someone's Flickr photostream. Lotsa other artistic elephants there as well. We have similar artwork in Kansas City, but with cows.

We had painted lions in Munich and cows in a few other Bavarian towns, but nothing as brilliant as Stephenephant. Imagine a dinosaur with a painted Stephen on it - a Stephenosaurus!

Oh Manchester had cows dotted around too a few years ago. All different designs. I remember there was even a Danger Mouse one with big mouse ears! I bet the lions were cool Soupy. Lions are such magnificent animals.

often made and sold as a fund raiser for charity.
