Usually a forum is as a forum does, it's about a certain thing (excuse me for reducing Mr Fry to an impersonal object , but I hope you know what I mean) and its members bojangle on about this, or tangentialize* off it, or meander about in its margins; and from this there springs a community.
Usually one can hang about, read a few threads that seem, on the surface, likely to give the a taste of the tone and the direction of the place; but I don't seem to know where to start with this one at all.
Is there an instructions thread? Is there a commonly trodden way in to the wood through the trees? Is there a helpful Virgil out there to guide me through the various circles of the... forum (I shan't take the metaphor to its ultimate conclusion). Is there a 'The Adventures of Mr Stephen Fry for Dummies' out there I can ask a friend to buy me for Christmas?
Many thanks
[* does anyone know if this is an americanism and, if it is, is american english authentic to the english of Shakespeare to verbify nouns and vice-versa (is 'verbify' another example??)]

The only real formal and official rules for the forum are regarding avatar size and you're not allowed to post anything discussing Stephen Fry's personal life or discuss RPS pairings that you'll find being discussed in the LiveJournal communities.
Speaking on behalf of the rest of the board, informally, round here we don't give a damn if people bump up 'old topics' , post repeat topics or post on the wrong board. Anything goes in terms of what to talk about. Off-topicness isn't frowned upon here. Different ideas, opinions and viewpoints are welcomed as is intelligent debate. However we do not like bullying around here. There are a lot of people who come here who suffer from things like bipolar disorder and come looking for help and advice so anyone who tells them to "stop being pathetic and pull themselves together" can expect more than a clip round the ear. We don't like those who try to intimidate others or push their views as being unquestionable facts.
General information regarding the boards - the titles are mostly self-explanatory. In General Musings we talk about everything and anything. We talk about Stephen Fry, we talk about ourselves, our interests, what's happening in our day to day lives, anything really. The Zero Room board is the place for posting rants if you're feeling pissed off. The Manic-Depressive board is where people post about their problems, difficulties, feelings concerning what they're going through and people give support and advice to them.

Amyl's more or less hit everything. A formal (and short) rule post is here:

If you're not sure about anything, drop me a PM.

.. OK. Many thanks. I'll suck it and see (and perhaps, in time, learn whether it is remotely acceptable to even hint at double entendre...)
