Okay, since I regularly use the Lovely Little Things thread to post things that I find hilarious, I decided humorous occurrences deserved their own topic. To begin:
One of my sisters and I asked one of my... less academically gifted sisters a series of historical questions.
Number one: When was the Civil War? Her answer: 1812.
Number two: What are the first ten amendments called? Her answer: The Preamble
Then we each took the citizenship test. My history major sister and I got 95%. She got a solid 60%.
The frightening thing? This individual will be teaching elementary students in two years.
"Whatever, the books will tell me all that stuff!" and "I don't even know who Patrick Henry is," do not inspire confidence.

Open to suggestions as to what my sig should consist of...

Oh jeez I didn't know the answers to those questions either. I did a fake American citizenship test and I got 35%.

...Does that make me hilarious?!

No, that just makes you normal because you haven't been listening to George Washington stories for like 15 consecutive years. Really, this girl had no idea how many Supreme Court justices there were. I think she guessed 10, but WHY WOULD YOU GUESS AN EVEN NUMBER???

Was watching an old episode of Grand Designs last night and the couple on it had finished their house but not their garden. They were standing outside on the decking with Kevin McCloud and suddenly there was a shot of a single strip of grass in the middle of the expanse of mud and Kevin said "I see you've laid some turf". My god, I seriously couldn't stop laughing. I started and the more I thought about it, the funnier it got. I was seriously crying by the end. Not sure why it amused me so much but it really, REALLY did.

My mom once walked into a library and said, "Wow, there's a lot of books here!" These comments are pretty much constant.

I know this is supposed to be hilarious, and the above really only says she just didn't do very well at history, but am I the only one surprised that this person got into a University? Please tell me she's a brilliant mathematician or linguist, or something, humor me please.

a friend recently told me about a time where a student meant to write that something was "mediocre" and instead wrote "media okra"...

Well, she's an elementary ed major, so she just has to know more than the average six-year-old. Not to say that el ed majors are stupid (it takes a VERY special person to teach little kids), but it's not the most difficult major. She's just... borderline mentally challenged. And she's an enormous whore, not that that has anything to do with her stupidity, but she is. I love her as a sister, but she's the ultimate example that not everyone has to, or should, go to college. She must've gotten through the SAT's okay (although it's the easiest test ever written), but it's not like research universities really care about teaching, anyway. As long as they get the tuition money, you can fail all you want!

Let's just say that since we've moved up in the Greek world, she definitely wouldn't have gotten a bid if she had rushed this year...

My husband is in the Air Force. Before we got married there was an air show going on near by and he said "wow, those are funny looking clouds". I said "no, Mr. Air Force rocket scientist, those would be contrails."

I will never let him live that down.

What she needs to write on that hand is nuclear, not nucular, and maybe a map, so she knows where Europe is....and Pennsylvania.
