hi, I suffer from insomnia ,and wonder if anyone has any ideas on how to conquer it , at the moment i'm lucky if i get 2/3 hours sleep a night, the thing that makes it worse i guess is during the day i will feel so tired and if i sit down i will power nap i will sleep for maybe 5 minutes but that seems long enough for the batteries to charge and then i am awake all night again, i know somethings got to give i don't want to take sleeping pills as i am a single mum of 3,and need to be able to wake if needed , im also told pills cause nightmares, i just need to be able to sleep any ideas please
insomnia,

Being a single Mum you probably stay on alert, knowing that there is only you to deal with anything that goes wrong in the night. I suspect you are just too alert to relax enough to stay asleep. This is my husband's insomnia problem, even now that we are empty nesters. He was always the one who woke up to their cries. Perhaps if you tell yourself, in words, that the house is secure and safe, the children are safe in their beds, and it is OK to sleep the night through, because you will hear them if they wake up, then your subconscious might just let you relax enough. This is NOT a recommendation, but what my husband does every so often is get a course of valium from the doc. He just takes one at night to help him relax, for about a fortnight, then he puts them away till he's desperate again. There is also another favourite with us - the hot milk drink with a dash of rum in it. It might not work, but at least you get some enjoyment out of the treatment. Good luck - with three children you really DO need your sleep, so I think you should get some help and advice from your Doc. |

Hello! First post so bear with me.... I have also had a lot of trouble with insomnia and it really is infuriating. I don't know if this would be of any help but I think even just 10 minutes of mindfulness exercises might help. Here is a link: http://www.get.gg/mindfulness.html If nothing else works I'd recommend seeing a sleep-specialist! Hope you get some sleep! |

Have you been to your doctor to rule out any other condition in which insomnia may only be one of a set of symptoms? Seems like 3 kids WOULD make you exhausted. OTOH, maybe you just don't, like many moms, get enough 'You-and-you-only' time to decompress?? Really? Wow. |
