toward the end the interviewer asks him about having a "downer". the conversation gets more infuriating from there.

You have to understand, banjo, that Derek Jameson was considered a twat in his heyday and was frequently satirised by comedians, impressionists et al. He hasn't been seen on TV for years, thank god, though I wonder what his effect on newspapers was.
I have a vivid memory from the early days of satellite broadcasting in the UK: Derek Jameson (of all people) hosted the first chat show on Sky One. In the only episode I remember seeing, his musical guest performers were the Mint Juleps, a female a capella harmony group. One girl was white and the rest were black. In the song they were performing, the white girl was unobtrusively in the background singing harmonies, not the lead, yet throughout the song there were only 2 camera angles used - group shot and close-up on the white girl.

Hiya Banjo,

Thank you very much for posting and bringing that to my / our attention.

What a real Gentleman he was. I saw him on stage doing 'The Secret Of Sherlock Holmes' - and watched as many of his Sherlock Holmes T.V films as I could catch.

The interview you posted - given with grace and humility under such emotional pressure from his memories ( made even more acute by that idiot derek jameson ) , was an example to us all.

My only regret was not asking the theatre staff if we could go back stage and meet the great man himself ( and Edward Hardwicke ) before Jeremy died of cancer some few years later.

Rest in peace, Mr and Mrs Brett, you are sadly missed.

Good one Banjo !

Regards,

F.F.

Sorry banjo, I`m much too late for this thread, but if you still wish to listen to JBs incredible voice you may do it here:

(If someone wishes to hear more songs just pm me )

Forth Feline I admire you for being privileged to have seen him on stage! I don`t understand why it wasn`t filmed as there where so many less interesting theatre plays filmed those days! So sad!
But I`ve heard he died of heart failure.

HI LOONA!

of course you are not too late! you're right about the heart failure...he had reumatic fever or something when he was young, from swimming when it was still cold out and i think it permanently weakens your heart ...plus he smoked a lot. i'm sure you know all this already but i will write it for other folks to read...he had a very interesting life. after he got over the reumatic fever his parents gave him a motor bike and his first day outside, he got on it, and drove right into a truck.

when i read articles and interviews about him after he started having episodes, it sounds like his treatment took a toll on him. i might be completely wrong about this, but i think i read somewhere that the meds he was on for manic depression made a bad combo with his heart problems (but there wasn't much other chouce at the time)...i think he was told he needed a transplant at one point and he didn't want to.

i have not forgotten your gift! but i can't get my tapedeck to work!!

well...we'll see...there may be some divine and darling intervention come along that fixes my tapedeck.

and...anyways...if any of you were at all interested in him and the sherlock holmes series, you should look around online for articles...he was not much like the character he played!

Hi banjo I`m glad you welcome my "wiping-the-dust-from-this-thread"!

Yes, they gave him medication (I think it was Lithium) that had a bad reaction with the medication for his heart.
Well JB had a very extraordinary career: Almost died of rheumatic fever but survived. Had a speech impediment but became an actor (with tongue surgery & with logopedic training every day.) He became a stage actor with a over 40 years career. He gained much weight through his medication & all the press were making rumors.Still he played on Sherlock Holmes. When I feel like giving up it helps me very much to think about what he had achieved in his life despite of all the problems standing in his way.
He was told about the heart transplantation in his last year, which he refused.
He was found in his apartment. I truly believe that he died of his own will (by not taking/or taking too much of his heart medication perhaps) because he was so strong-willed his whole life and came to the point where he knew it won`t be very long-one of his best friends died one month before him. But that is just my opinion, the suspicious nurse is speaking!

Here`s a lovely page about him:

Don`t worry about the tape banjo! I`ve got all the time in the world!
Cheers!
