Hi,

I'm new here, too. I stumbled across "The Secret Life of..." a few days ago, by accident. I'd been reading the blog before, and only then took a closer look at the forum. Glad I did.

I've been diagnosed as having an unfortunate combination of ADHD and reoccuring depression, but there's some doubt now if they/we got the ADHD part right - it might have been manic episodes. So right now, I'm a litte confused, and introducing myself to you instead of sleeping, hoping to find a place with understanding people who know what I'm talking about.

Oh, and another thing: Please bear with me if I get my sentences all wrong, sometimes, I'm not a native speaker. I try my very best, though. It's just that sometimes foreign languages, chronic lack of sleep, and a tendency to type and talk like a machine gun don't mix very well...

Hi
Been reading the forum for a while, and have just joined.
Been diagnosed with Bi Polar 11 last year and I hate it
I hate the weight gain, the constant struggle with 'putting my happy head' on. Hate the rapid cycling and the fact that my other half doesn't always understand
I have dogs, cats, horses and love them to bits.
I often forget what Im talking about...and my hearing seems to be getting affected.
But Hi to all of you

Hey guys, I'm new-ish too
Have been round this forum for sometime and never bothered to make an account, dunno why.
I have got quite a high level of bipolar, I have had it since I was four. It hurts me. I wish it to one day dissapear. I also suffer constant lows for no reason, but with so many understanding people around here, alot of you seem to put that smile back onto my face.
Am also a tad bit blind, hopefully it wont cause too much hassle with my reading and typing around here

Cheers! chat to some people soon i hope =)

Hi,

I’m new here. Haven’t spoken to anyone about this before, so nice to be among people who understand and to share a little anonymously.

Loved the DVD – was the first time I’d heard anyone talk about having experiences like I do.

I find it difficult to fit into most situations, those who love me put up with a lot of shit but they hang around.

As you know you go from being the life of the party to a sullen recluse pretty quick and back again. Never know who you’re going to get I guess, never boring.

As a previous poster mentioned I too am outstanding at sabotaging my life and continue to do so into my fourth decade.

But I do enjoy the creative bursts that come with the highs – have actually got a lot of stuff done in those times, funnily enough I’m still asked to conferences to speak about what I’ve created, but people don’t know the real story as to the energy behind the creation of that idea.

Hard to get up in front of a crowd when things are down though. I find the whole thing takes a tremendous amount of energy and leaves me feeling exhausted.

Anyhow, that’s a little about me – went to a doctor to talk about it once and he told me to get over it, so won’t be going back down that path again.

Thanks for listening,
Lots of love,
Sonya

Hello Sonya,
I've had to listen to the "get over it"-speech myself. It's tough when you finally do try to get help and someone dismisses you like that. I hope you find what you are looking for. Welcome.

Hi, My name is Keith. Spending a lot of time on the net at the moment and this seems like a safe place to speak my mind.
Hope that's ok.

Hi All,

I live in the Netherlands, I am 51 years old and was diagnosed with Bipolar II and OCPD in 2006. I did recognize myself in the latter but not in the first. The diagnoses were reconfirmed several times by different psychiatrists over the years. Last April I committed a TS and stayed in an ICU for some time. Eventually I had to agree to my diagnoses
In my search for information on the Bipolar Personality Disorder I stumbled on the documentary made by Stephen. That is, I found an illegal version buried somewhere deep down in the Internet. I was anxious to see the film. This would be a great way to inform my relatives about the subject.
There were no Dutch subtitles available anywhere and no English either for that matter. I realized, that the picture needs the explaining subtitles to get the message across.

I ordered my copy of the DVD at digitalclassics.co.uk. As soon as it arrives I will start translating the subtitles I hope there are English subtitles on the DVD. I started from the audio and needed a day to translate 10 minutes of speech. When the Dutch titles are available, those could possibly be made available here?

For now,
Happy swinging

Kind Regards from the Netherlands

You will find with me that I'll probably post here frantically for a while and then disappear - that's mania for you!

I'm 58, going on 59 and met Stephen at Kings Lynn Technical College (We were in the same hostel - and he's been hostile to me ever since! No but seriously...).

I write, create art, occasionally invent things and fail to get anything sold Stephen is more famous and successful than me but who cares?...well me actually. I lived in Cambridge for a while, just like Stephen but not as a student, just as a hospital porter at Addenbrookes Hospital and Trinity Hall for a short stint. I also worked in the Victoria wine shop across from Trinity College itself, got moved to the other branch, got drunk and stormed out. By the way, my original boss was called Mr Beer.

I liked Patrick McGoohan's 'The Prisoner' and 'the Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy' by Douglas Adams, who died young but alas not at 42, which upset some of his fans.

I have two dogs, having recently lost a third one. I live with my partner Margaret in Scotland. I like music, TV (not as much as I did), visiting forums (not as much as I did) and writing/ thinking: I'm what they term a natural philosopher (No degree in the subject, just a natural curiosity about how the universe works, which I suppose is why I like Fortean Times, UFOs and anything paranormal: I had my own website once but nobody came, which is why I ended up visiting forums and annoying people with my views, rather than hoping they'd come after me). My only claim to fame, apart from meeting Stephen and seeing John Cleese in the Courtauld Gallery, when I worked there as an attendant, was having stuff regularly published in the Mail's 'Peterborough Column', under the 'One-line philosopher' section and the occasional 'Wordy-wise'.

I was born in Diss, Norfolk, which I later found out means 'ditch' in Anglo-Saxon and very recently saw it mentioned on a TV program, which informed the viewer that where 'The Mere' (lake) is now, once caves existed - hence the name.

I'm nearly sixty and still sabotaging my own efforts (No courage of my convictions: 2 for shop lifting/ I for putting it down again).

The Doctor is right - you need to get over it, if you can't get under it.

I know what stage fright can do as I once appeared in The Caucasian Chalk Circle by Brecht, at Kings Lynn Tech. and made a right mess of it, when I accidentally caught sight of the audience. As for it being exhausting - Roger that, good buddy. Whenever I travel nowadays, I get migraines when I arrive and then when I get home again.

Life of the party? Only on the internet - too much of a klutz to be socially adept.

Good afternoon! Finally decided to join the forum fun!
As for bipolar disorder, I haven't got that, but I'm at the stage in my life where i'm being diagnosed with personality disorders and social disorders and other such wonderful things that every 19 year old wants to hear. So naturally I keep it all hush hush and we don't talk about my hospital visits and I shout at myself to get a grip along with everybody else.
