My girlfriend has been diagnosed with depression and I am fairly sure I have it. She told me where she stands on self-harming by saying the following (may not be word perfect, but who's picky, eh?)
"Smoking, drinking, over-eating, etc. are all forms of self-harm. Why should burning/cutting yourself be the only recognised ones?" I think she has a point, to be honest. |

Absolutely.
Taking any behaviour to an extreme to the point where it becomes harmful to you is self-harm. |
