Hello,
I'm relatively new on the board and probably have no right to start a thread to early in my forum career but there is one thing that occurs on a regular basis in my life and it is, to say the very least, driving me (even more) mad!
Basically, I was wondering if anyones condition, be it manic depression or anything, is ever used as a scapegoat to excuse certain situations were it hasn't been a factor? Just an example would be in my case, if my girlfriend and I are having a disagreement and she is saying something riduculous, and i tell her so, she'll turn round and just say " well I know it's not the real you talking, its just your condition" It's extremely infuriating because it makes it difficult to have anything other than a conventional opinion without people automatically thinking its due to your condition rather than how you are actually feeling.
I'm not sure if I've explained this very well, and if it makes no sense please feel free tell me so, i haven't slept for quite some time and am finding it increasingly difficult to think straight! Just curious though if anyone else has found that family members/friends use their condition to excuse their behaivour when it desn't need excusing
Ash xx

this makes a lot of sense to me.
i'm not even diagnosed with anything, but when i lived with a girlfriend she started talking more and more about how i was overly sensitive, and it got to the point where any sadness i expressed was invalid. i don't know, maybe it was hard for her to know what was going on or what to do.
i don't mean to be a downer, but i don't think i'll ever be in a relationship again.

I have even read one or two threads where something almost opposite has happened, i.e. someone used their condition to excuse their behaviour. The poster in question was referring to a problematic family member who (apparently) had frequently reduced people to tears and said "I'm bipolar. We do that", without any sort of apology.
