In a former life I made e-books for Palm and PC hand-helds. If you've got either of these I made a couple of e-Books of Stephen Hawking lectures ... you can download them from the bottom of:

I decided to purchase a Kindle today after contrasting it with the iPad. I decided on a Kindle because of it's physical size (I got the smaller cheaper Kindle that I can chuck in the ol' flight bag) and because I wanted something that was strictly "content" oriented, and something to keep my music notation and text on without a lot of bells and whistles.
I have nothing against the iPad ... it may indeed be the wave of the future, and I certainly do very much like my wee iPod with all it's apps. I spent around 6 weeks in Scotland last year and used my iPod all the time for e-mail and net access and it was fine, basically all I need.
