I hate to burden this board with another Zero Room moment already, but my cat's just been found by the country park rangers, having been had by a dog
She went missing last wednesday morning, we put up lost posters on saturday and on sunday were presented with a dead cat but eventually established this was not our Smudge, then yesterday someone brought by another cat, except it was far too big, and sadly today the rangers rang to say they'd found her on the edge of the Beacon, where she is prone to sit and white for our dogs to come off after a walk
it's generally assumed by frequenters of the park that she was had by the pointer hunter dogs, who have a tendency of hunting pack like, unfortunately Smudge seemed to get caught up in it
I hate the sort of shock state, I just feel numb, it's most unpleasant indeed, my mum's distraught and taking it out on me for not balling my eyes out, which is very helpful, but what can you do
She was only about a year old, and still growing, RIP Smudgely xx

Oh poor Smudge. What a terrible way to go. How awful you must be feeling Tango. Losing a loved pet can be hard. *hugs* You need to mourn the loss of Smudge the way that's right for you not your mum. Just because emotions aren't being shown on the surface in grand displays does not mean a lot of pain is being felt. When you're numb and in shock you just don't know how to react.

You're right, different people express themselves in different ways, there's no right and wrong way to show how you feel.

When our cat died we were very sad, but we had to get another one, as we were all too used to having a cat around (myself in particular, as I'd grown up with them around all the time).
One day you might be able to bring yourself to have another, so don't let such a sad event put you of the joy and fun of ever owning a cat again.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks very much everybody, I'm feeling a little better today, it always seems silly that losing a pet can be so upsetting, and yet here it is
Thanks muchly Shyamz and Amyl, it's a little awkward dealing with the different types of greif but your responses make me rather reassured, so tar again
Once more, thanks you lot, just reading this thread has cheered me up tbh :)x

I'm glad we could be of any help Tango and helped you feel reassured about your feelings. I hope you're feeling better today if only a bit. It get's easier over time though you always remember your pets and cherish the times you had together.
