So I've finally joined in this gaming generation and purchased a Nintendo Wii.

Now I need games. Anyone have suggestions?

I'm pretty sure I'll be getting Mario Galaxy and the new Mario Kart. They're staples of the Nintendo experience but what are some titles I wouldn't think to try?

I'm not sure what type of game you like but, Zack and Wiki is a brilliant (hard) underrated old style point and click adventure game. The Godfather black hand edition is good fun, but definitely gangsterish. You won't go wrong with something like Lego Indiana. Excite Truck is great fun but hard to find now (custom soundtracks can be played with mp3s on an sd card).

As for other games by the big N, Zelda is a good game but v long. Animal Crossing may have you addicted for months. And Metroid Prime is also good.

That would be me.

If you've managed to connect your wii to the internet, I'd recommend downloading some of the classics via the shopping channel. R-Type is one of the finer examples of the shoot-em-up genre, Super Mario Bros (or Super Mario World) are outstanding platform games and the majority of PC Engine, Sega Master System and Commodore 64 games are playable with the wii-mote (the N64, SNES and some megadrive ones will need either the classic controller, or a gamecube controller. The latter generally being the cheaper).

There are also wii-ware games ~ Wii games you can download. A current favourite is 'World of Goo'

As for Wii games you can buy, I'd recommend 'De Blob' (excellent platform game), Geometry Wars: Galaxies (retro shooter), Wii play (great multi player), Guiness World Records (surprisingly fun multi-player/family game) and metroid prime 3. I'd also recommend getting a wireless gamecube controller and a gamecube memory card as there are loads of great 'cube games to play (Viewtiful Joe, eternal darkness, RE4, F-zero GX, Ikaruga, Crazy Taxi, Zoocube, Metroid Prime, Pikmin, Star Wars : Rogue Leader and more) and the majority are dirt cheap in the second-hand shops at the mo (apart from ikaruga and Zelda : Twilight Princess).

Thanks guys this is exactly what I needed!

I checked out the Nintendo Shop and I think I'll start with the Wii Ware stuff when I start downloading. Mainly because I have hooked up an NES, SNES, N64, and GameCube.

I might try out some of the other consoles eventually. We had a Sega Genesis (two of them and both died), but I'm not so informed with the non-nintendo systems.

I'm really tempted on World of Goo because it's been recommended to me by a couple different people.

And I like most everything I'm not very good at any FPS and the only one I've ever made it through was Medal of Honor: Frontline.

So far I've managed to acquire Mario, Shaun White's snowboarding and have purchased a Wii Fit that should arrive in a day or two.

Mario Kart is next!

If you like anything, I'd say go for Okami, (Wii's best game yet...never mind what the magazines say about Galaxy or Smash Bros, plus the online play for Smash is totally dead to hell, so they are wrong to love it so much), it's absolutely stunning.

Super Mario Galaxy is great though, and as a Nintendo user you've got to keep up with the Mario series when a good game comes along haven't you?

I agree with the De Blob recommendation above, it's a great game and a really original idea, plus the Wii Fit is a good investment if you can afford it, as there are more and more games coming out that are compatible with the board, like Raving Rabbids TV Party (snowboarding on your butt with a buffalo, and a dance-move mini-game parody of the Ipod adverts called "Isod"...genius).

And Sam and Max for point-and-click lovers who remember-or not- the great versions from the nineties., and like games with a sense of humour (like the Raving Rabbids games do).

Galaxy has turned out awesome. I'm not too far into it yet but once I got used to the planets it was great.

However, it seems a little easier than most other Marios I've played. I've made it to the 3rd observation room the.. kitchen I think? Does it get any harder?

WiiFit is fun and my oldest FitAge was 29 but I have been scoring consistently around my actual age. That's no where near my mother's first score of 69 as she's 48 and my dad's score of 63 also out of 48. Pretty amusing all around.

I do horribly on the walking test every time and I know that's the reason for my higher age when it pops up.

I'll add Okami to the list.

Funny, I've just reached that part of the observation platform too! (I haven't gone in there to play the house levels yet, as I don't have much time to play my games...how long have you been playing Galaxy? I guess it could be easy if lots of us are getting through it quite quick, but it depends on how long we've been playing it I suppose).

Here's a link to some screenshots of Okami so you can have a look and see if it's your thing:

Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Mario Kart wii are very fun games.

Also if you are lucky, you can pick up some old Gamecube titles for very cheap prices in the likes of gamestation as they are compatible with the wii, thats just a
cheaper alternative.

Have fun with your Nintendo in any case!

how long have you been playing Galaxy?

Not long, but I've no interest to look up an overall time.

I'm looking forward to Mario Kart. I have to wait to get some spare cash though so it'll probably be a while.

Have fun with your Nintendo in any case!

Thanks!

Single player games
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Brilliant single player action adventure game. The gameplay consists of fighting and puzzle solving.

Super Paper Mario
Platformer with RPG elements. You play as Mario in a world were everything and everyone is a flat piece of paper. The game is filled with humour, great music and memorable characters.

My friends would also recommend Zack & Wiki, The Blob and MadWorld. The latter is an extremely brutal fighting game.

Multiplayer games
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
A fighting game were you try and knock your opponent off the screen. One of the greatest multiplayer games you'll find on Wii. Do not play this on your own.

Boom Blox
A Steven Spielberg game. Destroy block constructions by throwing balls at them. It's better than it sounds.

Virtual Console
Super Mario World
By far the best video game ever created.

Donkey Kong Country
The second best game ever created.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Some people would say this is the best game ever created.

Also if you are lucky, you can pick up some old Gamecube titles for very cheap prices in the likes of gamestation as they are compatible with the wii, thats just a
cheaper alternative.
I would recommend this seller on eBay: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/CakeNotWar. They sell PAL versions of Gamecube games, so Europe and Australia only.

The other potential issue is that SD cards vary in speed. If Nintendo implemented this, they would probably require that any games using this functionality run OK at the lowest SD card speed, rather than telling some customers that their SD cards aren't good enough.

Hanibu05:
Only buy from Nintendo.
Those sites might offer good things but 99% it's a scam and NONE of the money goes to the game developers. And they need it to make games.
It's frowned upon to pay these piracy sites for games they don't own the rights to.

To all others.

Games you should own on a Wii:
Super Mario Galaxy
The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess
Metroid Prime: Corruption
õkami
Super Smash Bros Brawl (if you like fighting games)
Muramasa

Wii shop titles
Any Zelda game
Super Mario 1-3 and World
Mega Man (any)
Ninja Gaiden (if you like hard games)

And with the firmware update that supported SD card play you are no longer locked into a x amount of games max limit. And if you get either the Wii branded SD cars or anything from Scadisk, Kinston or such you're good to go.

I wish I was a shapeshifter.
