Heres a list of games I'd recommend
* Big Brain Academy [a good one to play with the kids or when you have friends over]

* Big Screen Scene-IT [if you like movies and movie quizzes]

* Excite Truck [surprisingly fun truck racing game]

* LEGO Indiana Jones

* Mario Party 8

* Mario Kart

* [New] Super Mario Bros.

* Okami [you'll either love this one or hate it]

* Order Up!

* Prince of Persia - Rival Swords

* Sim Animals

* Skate It [good if you have the Wii Board]

* Super Mario Galaxy [SMG2 is supposed to be coming out soon, so keep an eye out for that one]

* Super Paper Mario [Which is really, really cute! ]

* Sims 2 - Castaway

* Wario Ware : Smooth Moves [silly, but fun]

Enjoy!

I concur on WarioWare Smooth Moves. The WarioWare series is awesome. I'm totally addicted. Smooth Moves is sadly a one player game though. If you could play against your friends then it would be just perfect. For the uninitiated the WarioWare series are games which contain hundreds of microgames. It's all about things like reaction speed, attention, concentration as well as skill. On the Gameboy and DS versions you can even unlock classic games like Dr Wario and Sheriff.

A game I recommend for two players is Carnival Games. It's a good one to play with friends. You get to play loads of traditional games you'd find in funfairs. My favourite is the one where you get to shoot ducks.

You had a Genesis? Then get the Sonic Mega Collection for the GameCube and some GameCube pads (or cheap alternatives like I did). That is if you're like the Sonic games. The collection includes Sonic 1, 2 3, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic 3D, Sonic Spinball and Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (so addictive). There are also some bonus animations (including the ones from Sonic CD!), artwork, comics and some hidden games from other platforms to unlock.

Assuming direct control...

The Monkey Island games from the Wii Store are pretty good.
