boycotting celebrations seems futile and just like thumbing your nose at people to no effect.

I disagree. Boycotting in any sense is a way of stating "There is something wrong with this situation, something I disagree with, something I dislike or something I cannot affiliate myself with. I cannot affect that situation directly, but I can publicly state my disapproval and disassociate myself with that which I find distasteful." Individually these do not have much of an impact, but en masse they can be an overwhelming tide. I refer you again to South Africa. It's a valid and time-proven method of protest against a situation and it's a shame that so many people are apathetic enough that they can't be bothered to make a statement any more.

Personally I believe it showed courage and insight by Stephen to show up Israeli misdemeanours and to take some positive action. He has once again made the right decision.

I believe both sides have a hand in the lack of peace, and I do also think that it's a bit unfair to point the finger of blame exclusively at Israel. The Arab states hands aren't clean in this either, and they have exploited and oppressed the Palestinian people as well.. though you wouldn't hear a peep about this in the European press. The Arab world needs to be shamed for it's human rights record, and it's attempt to bankroll movements into working to annihilate Israel.

Why not ban the celebrations, of both sides? Put the onus of responsibility on both, equally and perhaps that way you stop coddling one into feeling it can use us as a bully club with which to beat the other.

I have a set of strong opinions on this on the whole but am hesitant to share them do to some drama from dear friends in the past.

So I will just say that I support a Free Palestine whole-heartedly but I do love the Jewish people. You can do both trust me.

*shudders* I once said that I believe in a free Palestinian country and my dear Jewish friends (of which there are many) accused me of supporting terrorism in not so kind tones.

I used to be EternalStudent on these forums until the switch over. So don't get excited..I'm not someone new and exciting. I'm just me :P

With all do respect, a free Palestine WHERE?
there's a "free palestine" in the Gaza strip. Look how good they are handeling themselves. I do think that we shouldn't have any settelments on Palasteinian lands in Jehuda and Shomron, but that would never be enough to give them the freedom they need, would it?

So what do you believe, should we do?
Honestly, if I could I'd get out of this country tomorrow. But where to exactly do you think I could go?

Boycotting and judging is easy. Sollutions are harder to come by.

Well done Mr. Fry. Israel is a horrible state with disgusting policies both past and present. Jew and Arab living together in the holy land is the way forward. Crowding an entire country's population into a corner, building on their land and crushing them when they bite back is not.
