Just thought I'd share this, even though it is nothing to do with bipolar disorder, you all know I've had a tough time recently and this has cheered me up.

I just heard from the Journal of Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Disease that they are going to publish a large paper of mine from the results of my PhD. It's taken years to get this far, but finally.......

Thank you everyone. Very touched by all the replies.

To answer the question of the topic, it is, "The metabolic impact of a low-fat high-carbohydrate diet in diabetic and non-diabetic subjects." When someone follows a low fat diet they tend to substitute in extra carbohydrate. I proved that if they eat more sugar (sucrose), the levels of unhealthy fats (triacylglycerol) in their blood actually rise, whereas if complex carbohydrates (slow release) are eaten, this does not happen. Da daaa! Sounds like common sense, but it had never been proven.

Oh wow, that's brilliant! So does that mean that my Diet of Meat and potatoes is OK? The thought of eatting anything else makes me want to stop eatting altogether.

Ha ha Nick, I like the UNTIL NOW....

Red, a diet of just meat and potatoes is not really healthy, but I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve. When giving dietary advice I really need a lot more than that to go on. What sort of meat, how the potatoes are cooked, what foods are being avoided, what foods should be introduced, what the aim of the diet is etc. If you want a serious discussion about it then pm or email me and I will do my best to help. (I am a qualified nutritionist, having a joint honours degree in Nutrition and Biochemistry, before I did my PhD. I promise you that's the truth, though you should always be careful on the internet).

Well it's not ALL I eat, but I do prefer steak and baked potato to any other meal. I live alone and eat alone so my "diet" which isn't a diet at all is lacking in so many ways. It's so hard to eat right when you're shopping, cooking or not cooking for one person. It's always easier to bring home take-out(or away) instead of making a mess of the kitchen for a small meal for one. I am planning on trying to diet and get some exersize as soon as I can...tomorrow(*sigh*). I don't want to be the typical fat American when I move and I don't care what people tell me, I AM fat.
