A self-confessed player of the pink oboe? That was Cook's sketch for the Secret Policeman's Ball.

Billy Connolly gave them that one, just before they went on stage!

Ah, but it was Peter who added the 'self-confessed' which all agreed was the icing on the cake as far as the joke went.

Makes me want to go and get my Policeman's Ball DVD box set out and have another night-long marathon. The courtroom sketches were always good, and the hedge sketch was realy well done. (not a Peter thing, but good all the same ).

It was Peter Cook who added that? Brilliant.

Its not really what he was about, because it makes him sound like a clown, but just his eyes in some of the sketches make me laugh.

I've read a lot of the books about his life, I just loved his off the cuff stuff.

Especially The Clive Anderson interviews. My ex recognised the football manager, as based on Ken (?) sorry, I'm not a football fan, so his last name went right over my head.

Very clever.

I wish i had cut out, kept, and framed the wonderful photograph of him that was published as the cover of Private Eye when he died.

I don't think the eyes comment makes him sound like a clown - most professional clowns can't do shit with their eyes. The ones we remember who can are actually actors playing clowns in films and TV, that's actors not clowns.
I'm still trying to work out how many other people here have read Harry Thompson's biography. I believe Amyl hasn't and she should.

I haven't and I need to get a copy. I already have several books on his life (and ones with sketches written by him) that I've been dipping in and out of. Each book has something new to offer.

The Clive Anderson interviews were brilliant. He was so funny. I liked the football manager Alan Latchley best. So funny. X-D

Entirely a Matter For You is the greatest comic monologue ever. The phrasing is sensational. That and Rowan Atkinson's School Master sketch are highlights on the old Secret Policeman's Ball audio tape. The DVD I've seen that my friend has, the sketches are from a different night and aren't performed quite as well in my opinion. The audio tape is fantastic.

Yay E. L. Wisty is still winning the poll. \^0^/

Bedazzled is a fantastic film. I love it to oodles and bitsies. It's such a wonderful and funny film it's really hard to choose just one favourite scene. I can't even decide on a favourite wish!
