Does no one else find it creepy that almost everyone uses a picture of Stephen Fry as there picture, we all know that everyone is a fan of his, that is why we are here, so why use the pictures?

That's part of the fandom thing. You'll get that in any fandom. Go to a Doctor Who group on LiveJournal and you'll see Doctor Who and Torchwood characters galore being used in avatars. It's part of the fun. People enjoy creating and sharing avatars, banners and wallpapers dedicated to their fandom. It's not just about saying "I'm a fan of x" but something more. Personally, I do enjoy looking at and squeeing over new avatars people create for fandoms I am interested in. The Stephen Fry fandom isn't just pictures of the man himself but are frequently taken from shows such as Blackadder and Jeeves and Wooster which many of us adore and love.
