I've never written a song before, just got home from New York and the mood took me, lyrics only natch:

Urban Pasture

(City blocks paved in chewing gum, catchin’ on my shoelaces
Pewter sunlight shivers, across window panes and sunburned faces.
Sirens and car alarms; they’re birdsong!
I’ve known it, yeah we’ve known it, all along.
It’s urban pasture.)

On bumpy roads striping lonely corners,
Black tarmac stretches out,
A procession of mourners.
On West 96th the Subway yawns and whines.
Greasy breakfasts oil the cogs that stride ‘round. In white Nikes.
The living Sound.

(City blocks paved in chewing gum, catchin’ on my shoelaces
Pewter sunlight shivers, across window panes and sunburned faces.
Sirens and car alarms; they’re birdsong!
I’ve known it, yeah we’ve known it, all along.
Our urban pasture.)

In jagged steel the skyline grins,
Mocking us, our sins and overflowing trash bins.
When it rains the apartment blocks shimmer, their coarse coats slicken
And fire escapes drip.
Tired of human traffic, I jump the A train to Long Island
I’ve given them the slip.

(City blocks paved in chewing gum, catchin’ on my shoelaces
Pewter sunlight shivers, across window panes and sunburned faces.
Sirens and car alarms; they’re birdsong!
I’ve known it, yeah we’ve known it, all along.
This urban pasture.)

New York: your scripture is spray painted on concrete tablets.
A pink sunset on the Hudson, there’s your benediction:
The prophets will reverse their baseball caps in reverence.
You’re sweat and noise, emerald and iron. A contradiction!
You are contradiction.

Any good?

I especially like this line:

New York: your scripture is spray painted on concrete tablets.

Excellent imagery there.
