Good evening. I have only just joined and this is my first ever posting here. I seek comfort in all things Fry because I live in a country where, while there are many benefits to residence, one is looked at rather as though one had declared a predilection for eating raw babies if one is an atheist and the highest form of local humour is pulling funny faces at men in drag. I find that Mr Fry's wit, erudition and eloquence, particularly on religion and other evils, are all that keep me sane sometimes and I devour them greedily in as many of his writings and broadcasts as I can lay hands upon. I tend not to speak unless I have something to say so I suppose that, for want of frequent posting, I could be classed as a 'lurker'. But rest assured that I shall follow this forum with interest and appreciation.
Best wishes to you all.

Always live with an open mind, a generous heart and a forgiving spirit.

Hi stephen. This is my first ever reply, blog thingy (as you can see my knowlege of technology is well advanced there..very technical terms). I have only just joined but understnd there have been some technical difficulties. I understnd how annoying these things are but if it wasnt for the joys and problems of internet sites we wouldne ba able to actually formthis fantastic group of stephen followers. I have no idea who i am talking to but like the looser i am,im going to by pass the opportunity to seem cool and aloof and just say how amazing i think stephen fry is and allthough i have not idea truly of the person you are, for whta i have seen, learned and admired through documanentarys, interviews and those amazing novels written as well as your career and understanding of mental health,i frikin love evey hair on your chinny chin chin. (aassuming you have some, im worryingly developing some from my mothers genes i fear..i however shall wax as she is starting to resemble a bearded lady but i love her dearly). Anyhoo im now very much excited and going to jump into bed with a novel, only to fall asleep and wake up with it on my face. Night all!

Dear Mr. Fry and all who make this happen,

I just wish to express my deepest gratitude for the site, all the wonderful writing, recording etc done by you, Mr. Fry.

(forgive me if this is presumptuous to add, but it is something I keep thinking. That, Mr Fry, you are liked for your wonderful mind, but you are LOVED for your wonderful heart. You might quite rightly say that we don't know your heart, being a private thing. But there exists a very real and vivid public heart which is very fine indeed. Ok, you may go back to more interesting things....)

thank you for your time,
ros1

As a new member of the Stephen Fry club (God knows why it took me so long to join), I would like to publically agree with and accept the terms of which Stephen and Andrew both stated. I am eager to read and contribute to many posts, and hope that everyone will be as nice as asked.
I simply can't wait to stalk (in a friendly manner... of course!) Stephen and his many interesting blogs.

p.s. why must you be 18 to go and see QI live? You expect me to wait four years?!

Just saying. It's totally your own fault that the server has bandwidth issues. Stop being too nice, funny, so famous and stop being a pleasant figure to watch on television, only then it will have less bandwidth usage.

When I come to be of the same age as you Mr.Stephen Fry, I wish to have less flaws than you and at least half of your virtues.

Sorry if my English is sketchy. I place commas there where I think should be a short pause when reading.

Dear Stephen, Andrew et al,

Thank you for your lovely post to members. Best of luck with the changes and hope the process is relatively stress free & painless for yourselves as much as the users.

Best wishes.
Me.

Lordy, lordy. Trouble at Chez Fry?

What an inconceivable concept! But rather comforting too. Perfection is only ever possible though imperfection!

Fear naught dear sirs and madams (misses?!), I am a newbie and it hasn't put me off one bit. Would I had as many options on my own blogeroonythingywhatsit effort.

Andrew... are you ever released from Fryville for such services? Aussie bluntness I can handle as my father was a Yorkshireman and I find it refreshing... most of the time.

Stephen... you goon, you are not responsible for how everyone(or indeed anyone)reacts, so stop it. You really are a naughty boy. Much as we'd all love you to take over the running of the entire planet to knock some sense into it, I'm afraid you can't so don't even try. You'll only wear yourself out, and then where will we be? Please behave in future!

Big fluffy felicitations to one and all xxx

"Those also serve who stand and wait!" welcome fellow newbie!

I doubt I shall be posting often either, but that's simply because of time and the need to be part of real life instead of cyberlife. That said I've been busier on here than I thought as their are so many interesting things here and lots of lovely people like yourself to say a hello to!

That's a stunningly unusual style of writing mate! I can't quite fathom though if you approve of Mr Fry and his team or not. You obviously approve on some level.

Sadly I don't think the internet is quite up to this level of popularity and fan-dom yet! But here's hoping it will be of the correct bandwidth in readiness for you!

PS: I think you're a secret fluffy bunny boo, soft as mush inside.

As a newbug to this Forum, may I enquire as whether other members get as outraged as I do about the modern misuse of the word "Password"?

Sadly this website falls into the trap. I am glad to say that I won a rare victory against HM&RA who tried to fine me £100 last year for not sending in my tax return before the 31st January.
My reason was that they never sent me my "password". They claimed they had! What they had sent me was a jumble of letters and numbers, a Code!
A password, according to most sensible dictionaries (are there any other kind?), is a word used to indentify a person as possessing an agreed secret word that allows them to pass!
They eventually agreed and cancelled my fine!

A password can surely not include # ! ~ or other keyboard symbols, and neither can it include letters, (though perhaps an exception could be made for say 1Password..!
This 'dumming-down' of the English language, while not causing maiming (what an 'ugly word' as says otogenarian American comedian Shelly Berman), or the death of anyone, but it is just plain incorrect!
PS may I have a real password , please, very sweetly?
SPH.
is such an "ugly word)

Dear Mr. Fry. Please take out your American dictionary and get to the point in 50 words or less. How about this...I'm sorry. We're fixing it. Please be patient. Love you all. Thanks. Stephen. Dear Stephen Fry.
I have read some of this interview you gave. You say that you meant to be humorous.

I have also tried this a few times but unfortunately used a little too "touchy" subject, with the result that my audience did not understand either humor or irony, but they only heard the WORDS, and got condescending or angry. They held my own words against me afterwards.

It is clear that the words themselves could be inappropriate to say, - but NOT in the light of humor or irony! ... they had not perceived that.

Obviously the journalist who interviewed you, did not understood this eighter, and he referred you as if you should have said these things quite serious.

And what newspaper readers are concerned, they have to think twice to perceive the interview, - because of this imature journalist.

When we have the written word in front of us we, we always have to consider whether things are written with irony, humor or seriously.
Because we do not have the person (that has been interviewd) in front of us, we can not see the facial expression, tone of voice, body language and so on. Not suprisely we can really get the whole thing wrong.

People with normal intelligence, understanding and empathy will understand this. Others choose to quit the mob for fun. It is easy to say "do not worry about it" because you do.
But doubt not that serious people understand how this fits together. And stayes by you. Warm hugs from cold Norway.
