Fry,
My God. A little perspective please. So your feelings are hurt over being misquoted. This will pass in a week or less and you will still live like a celebrity without a care in the world.

I have had this happen to me (been misquoted in the press, incidentally it was in the "Ireland on Sunday" Newspaper, which has since merged with the Sunday Mail! After a court-case 10 years ago I was (ill)advised to give them an interview, I have erased the journalist's name from my memory, but she distorted everything that I said! Ireland is a VERY small country and this damnable article which was on the front page and several other pages inside was being advertised on national radio, I was described as "The Englishwoman". It is horrible and hurtful, but anyone who really "knows" you (by which I mean, knows your work etc, rather than your personal friends, obviously) will KNOW that this is just how journalist's (perhaps not all???)get their story nowadays! I sincerely hope that this hate-filled vileness will not prevent you from tweeting, and that you'll bounce back quickly and get strength and succour from those of us who hold you in high esteem and enormous fondness. I'm not going to go into the specifics of the theme of the article, best if it's consigned to history, suffice to say that whilst many people may have found your article amusing, some may have found it insulting etc etc, we are all of us entitled to have a difference of opinion with our very nearest and dearest, without resorting to spiteful and deeply hurtful attack. Tomorrow is another day, hope it's a much better one for you dear x

Stephen,

I know it hurts right now. How could it not? Words, something you love so deeply, have been used to hurt you. I hope, though, that you're in a safe place, emotionally and physically, and treating yourself kindly.

I hope that you'll get someone you trust to look through the replies here and on twitter and print out the important ones- the ones from people who care, who are concerned, and who don't buy into the idiotic need to create drama to sell mags and papers. While there will always be people who want to put the boot in on a bad day, you have a lot of people who want to show you support on what must be a pretty bad day for you.

Be well.

So - I send you a little tweet saying how much I'm enjoying your book and I'm eagerly waiting your reply when next thing I know you've seemingly left Twitter because somebody said something nasty about you in a newspaper and now I'm never going to get a reply from the great and wonderful Stephen Fry so I might as well leave Twitter too. Now see what you've gone and done. Hard luck to my 15 followers.

PS Hope you are well, I will continue to worship you from afar.

Over night the fun of Twitter has turned around, and it's not actually that much fun anymore. I wanted to tweet you to show that not all women were offended by what you said! And to help tell the world to get a sense of humour... But I guess I'll have to be content with showing it here.

i'm on twitter and the main reason i started on there was that Stephen fry was on there. and i was apprehensive and i've been on for a while now and i like to read his tweets but now he's said bye which i hope isn't.
after all tweeting is meant to be a fun thing wondering what others are doing then re -tweeting replying and i think he's a very good hearted person and a joke is a joke which has been taken out of perspective and now i see MSN are now showing behind the scenes stuff.
come back Stephen you missed Sir!

Stephen, you should take yourself off to where we've just been - the Mary Mount Hotel, Keswick and get your equilibrium back. They don't have wi-fi - instead, they have everything the heart desires in terms of peace and beauty. (Try and get room 25 - two windows!) Then come back refreshed and raring to go! x

Here's to it and to it and to it again. And if you don't do it when you come to it, may you never come to it to do it again. x

I am exactly the same. I come on to Twitter to enjoy the Tweets of Stephen and am saddened that I don't get to see his amusing Tweets and links. Even my 9 year old looks over my should and is sad to see nothing from him.

Please Mr Fry, we don't need the silly media to tell us what you think or feel, you tell us that yourself via tweets and blogs. So please come back and make us smile again

In the words of Mr Jones - Don't Panick!!!

I couldn't find this post on the site, so am re-posting it here in the forum. If it is not authentic, I will remove it immediately. Apologies if I'm duplicating. Jo is a gracious and wonderful sister.

Jo at Stephenfry.com has just replied regarding Stephen Fry doing a quick phoner at 8.15 am....

"Stephen is lying very very low indeed and besides he his in a car on the way to the Sherlock Holmes 2 set.

I do appreciate you asking and many would perhaps think it wise to clear up any misunderstandings, misquotes and comments taken out of the timeline in which they were said but this is not the decision that Stephen has made."

Warmest wishes and thanks.
Jo

Take all the time you need. All the fluffier than fluffy fluffetes will still be here!

You've pretty much said everything i came on here to say so i shall simply say that i echo this sentiment.

"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not"

"Wanting to be someone else is a waste of the person you are"
