So...what did everyone think? I actually really liked the no audience thing. It was just so much fun to listen to Craig and Stephen just talking about so many things and being so funny and brilliant about it all. And I actually learned a couple of things I didn't know before. Great show

It was an experiment Craig was trying out, something he hadn't done on his show before--no opening monologue, no studio audience, just conversation with one guest for the whole hour. It wouldn't have worked with just anyone, but because Stephen is, well, awesome, it ended up being a great episode. I apologize that I don't have the technological skills to youtube it, but hopefully it'll be available there soon.

I would post it on youtube if I actually had a clue how to get something off a DVR and post to youtube. Usually it is posted in a day or two.
There was no audience because Craig wanted to do an experiment in the old fashioned talk show way of Tom Snyder, who had the late late talk show spot for a very long time, in the 70's. Basically, 2 people talking without an audience.
Stephen was the perfect guess. 40+ minutes of two long time friends talking about smart and stupid things, using words many people would need to look up if they could spell them. So many interviews, they get to say the same 10 minutes of stuff, promote the 1 item and move on. This was great, flowing conversation with no real agenda other than the conversation. No spectacle, just raw wit and intelligence. Something I think we need more of in this world.
I know some Late Late Show followers have said they didn't like it because it wasn't the same silly stuff they are used to. I mean Craig's show, which I record every day, is normally, 60% sophmoric, 30% college, and a quick 10% PhD level. This show was more 10% sophmoric, 10% Phd and 80% college level. I loved it.
I don't think CBS will allow Craig to do this every day, but more wouldn't be a bad thing, would it?

I found the first part on youtube, but I'm still waiting for the remainder of the show. So far I think it's fascinating. I really think this is something that we don't see enough of in America: thoughtful conversations on television.
I can't wait to see the rest of it. I hope they do more of this because I think it works really well. I don't think they have to do it every night, but I'd love to see it on a regular basis.
I'd love to see Conan O'Brien on there!

I just got it off a torrent.
I found it very entertaining and very much like wearing a nice soft comfy blanket to watch.
I learned stuff I didn't really know.
And Stephen and Craig in the same room like that was great.
And the lovely and gorgeous men they are made it all the more awesome.
I wish I was a shapeshifter.

I learned stuff I didn't know too! I never heard of pleonasm until Stephen mentioned it. Funnily enough, my History of the English Language professor talked about something being pleonastic earlier today. I couldn't help thinking "I learned what that means on the Late Late Show!"

Ditto. Saw interview on Youtube. Brilliant to watch and learned so much about Mr Fry and Mr Ferguson. Hope they repeat the "experiment" as prefer Craig Ferguson like this.
Near the end it did look as if Stephen was seriously considering moving permanently to USA and becoming a US citizen. However, I'm not sure if it simply appeared to be like that because, as it was a US show, they naturally spoke about life in America. What did anyone else think?

Personally, I loved it. It was interesting, comical, and just fascinating. It did not feel like an hour, and just blew by.
As much as I liked the style of the interview, it should be a special thing. There are few people that are interesting for an hour long interview, and Stephen is one of the best at it. But random supporting actress #3 usually can't be interesting for the 5 minute interviews, let alone all 44 minutes.
Personally, I would have liked a two part show!

I second the last part. As it was real nice conversation they were having.

Here is the intro link from the gent who posts all the episodes of Craigy. Craig explains why he is choosing the format. Fry is on set from segment "B." YT format is sectioned into A thru G or F. You may have to back out after each section and click onto the next. Make note of the poster, Malinky.
Stephen was relaxed and warm, and Craig was brilliant as well. Hope he does this more often.
Enjoy!
