There's a lot of stuff on TV lately about Pearl Harbor, WWII and all of that history.
And I understand, to a degree, peoples interest. But as someone who has experienced war I find myself unattracted to reminders of it.
A friend invited me to dinner at his house last night, who knows my background well enough. Not only did he have the TV on the whole time, it was all death, destruction, terror, death, bombs, war, war, war madness, insanity etc etc. He's kind of one of those folks who wishes they'd experienced it for themselves. Silly goose that he is.
But damn...all I could think was 1) how quickly can I get myself off the hook and out of this dinner and 2) what kind of fucking moron decides that a good soundtrack to have a meal by is one of constant and continual sounds of war?
I lasted about ten minutes then pulled a lie out of my back pocket and got the hell out of there. I was slighty pissed about it too because he knows I'm not into all that anyhow. I don't want to think about it and I don't want to talk about it and I don't want to be reminded of it when I CAN help it. I damn sure don't want to EAT by it...
Grrrrr...

Unpleasant. I'd have left as well and I've never been in a war situation. I'm sorry it wasn't good.
If you had dinner at my house:
A/ It would be takeaway as I am a terrible cook.
B/ I may stop upstairs if I am depressed.
C/ I would play tasteful and restful background music.

Thanks (((Tito))) - you're sweet.
I'd far prefer songs by priests about horses.
I love takeout btw and am comftorable eating it alone lol

Yes.
I think I was more ticked about this situation than I realized because every time I've thought about it, I get angry. I'm not sure if it's entirely directed at him, or just the thick-headed insensitivity of people in general.

The way the media is always talking about War and seemingly eternal conflict seems very Orwellian to me. Pretty soon we'll all be getting our breakfast at the Chestnut Tree Cafe.

My wife expects me to sit through the Jeremy Kyle Show. For Americans, this is where a man is paid to shout at People Of Walmart. Who shout at each other. And there's me sat there with a history of depression. And the oven's no use since they changed to non toxic natural gas instead of the poisonous and friendly old coal gas.
The only way is forward. Now where's the bar?

Jeremy sounds like our Jerry Springer. Most of Jerry's viewing audience is there because they get to walk away thinking they're better than the people who he trots across the stage. I can't stomach the stuff but have met people who Tivo it so they can watch it later.
Personally, I'd rather take a staple gun to my corneas.

This should serve as a warning to avoid people named Jerry/Jeremy.
Although I did used to work for a Gerard who was very nice.
Actually I like Jerry (From popular comedy duo 'Tom and Jerry') too.
And I like Jeremy Paxman presenting University Challenge.
I take it back. We should affiliate ourselves with people named Jerry/Jeremy all the time.
Thankyou for your time and patience. Good afternoon.

"I lasted about ten minutes then pulled a grenade out of my back pocket and got the hell out of there".
Every ounce of my being believed that is what you were about to say.
