I seen this on a other site.
the question is simple: what is your favourite word in your own language and what does it mean?

I will begin. my favourite word in the Dutch language is gezellig because:
1) it sounds great (a bit strange but true)
2) it describes a state of mind, a feeling and a judgement on a social atmosphere in one word.
3) it is untranslatable

I have on-line translated the word and the computer came with this:
gezelligheid(de ~ (v)) als in `gezelligheid`:
sociability (the ~), conviviality (the ~), cosiness (the ~), snugness (the ~), companionableness (the ~), chumminess (the ~)

and it is al those things but there all not quite it.
Tutors who have to learn forgers Dutch have the same problem, there solution is, tell the students that they have to ask a lot, is this gezellig? and if you do this often enough then you will in time understand what the word exactly describes, you will get a feeling for it.

I am what I am

perambulate- to stroll/ walk in a relaxed manner.
I don't know why I like it so much. I just think it's cool.

Knickers.

it sounds old fashioned, slightly naughty, and is a good substitute for a swear word, when you're not too serious.

We had to wear real knickers back in my days at Heckmondwike Grammar School. Made of dark brown interlock, with elastic waists and elastic round the top of the leg, they were so awful I reckon they were a form of contraception. In fact any male who caught a glimpse of our nether garments back then, would never recover from the shock.

Serendipity

It is the act of discovering something fortunate, especially while looking for something else entirely. I just love the way it trips off the tongue

I think my favourite german word is

"Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz"

seriously I never thought about "favourite words". But funningly enough my obviously most hated word crossed my mind immediately:

Finanzamt (tax office)

I used to have a hated German word but i've forgotten it - it is the 'Amt" where you register where you live. The thought of having to register your address always gave me the shudders.

I don't like the English word 'slug'.....it seems to somehow describe the loathsome creature. Have you noticed all the slimy words start with 'sl' as in slimy, slithery, sloppy, slide, slip.....

I really like the old German word Schnickelfritz. Apparently it's not really in use anymore but I think it should be. It is a sort of term of endearment, like 'you little rascal'...
But my favorite Norwegian word however I'm not sure about...
