As the thread title suggests - what's your favourite word in the English Language.

Points for grandiloquence, but equally the more mundane choices with explanations would be interesting too.

My personal fave at the moment I think is "chain" - I know, a weird choice, but I quite like its dual connotations. On the one hand, you're a link in a chain - a very positive metaphor. On the other, the chain shackles you. It's a very existential word.

Quite like words such as ostentatious or disingenuous too - as they're concepts we all know and understand, but which we lack the appropriate word to describe if you don't already know them (though I guess "to be fake" is similar to disingenuous). It reminds me of the taste of sick in your mouth - in English there is no such word for this, but there is in Danish (I only know it phonetically, sur-op-ster). The relationship between language and thought is so interesting.
